--password-store=basic means store password in plain text. Do you really want to do this .

Re: Was Ulyana released before it was ready?

Applications are not ready for Ulyana doest not mean that Ulyana is not ready.

Users are responsible to test their applications (that are not part of the OS) on a new version.

Re: Can I upgrade mint cinnamon 19.3 to 20 without disabling PPAs & 3rd party repos?

You have to test to see and that is the only way.

I tried a fresh install and some of my application using PPA can no longer be reinstalled ( because they're not ready for Unbuntu 20 yet).

For now I stay with 19.3 until those applications will be ready for Unbunu 20 (if they will eventually be).

If you uninstall and reinstall VLC on the "trouble" installation would it fix the font ?

Re: Update manager fails as shown

It should be in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

You can set it to either :
RESUME=none
or
RESUME=UUID=<your swap device UUID>

Re: LM19.3 Mate:- Cannot get crontab to run sh script

Your script does not have execute permission ( no x found ) : -rw-r--r-- 1 tony tony 60 Jul 8 18:55 /usr/bin/sh/rsync_script

You need to grant x like you did previously : chmod +x /usr/bin/sh/rsync_script
Or

Code: Select all

chmod u+x /usr/bin/sh/rsysnc_script
to grant execute to the owner only

Re: LM19.3 Mate:- Cannot get crontab to run sh script

So it's a permission issue.
From what I saw in your post user "tony" was able to execute that script.
Did you use "tony" user to create your crontab ?

Can you post the output of :
1) ls -l /usr/bin/sh/rsync_script
2) from user who owns the crontab do :

Code: Select all

id

14G is really small. My system is very clean and has not many extra applications installed and I have ~ 12G used in / ( I keep 3 versions of kernel just in case )

You may want to purge some of your kernels if you have too many. Each kernel version purged may free up to ~ 400M

Re: LM19.3 Mate:- Cannot get crontab to run rsync command over ssh

In crontab you need to specify the whole path of your script.
If your script is in /home/tony/scriptdir/rsync_script then your crontab should look like this :
* * * * * /user/bin/sh /home/tony/scriptdir/rsync_script

Re: more RAM would improve online video playback?

Before adding memory you should monitor swap usage with

Code: Select all

free -m
command and look at "Used" column
If you had 0 swap used or very little (and not growing) then adding memory would not help.

And here is a sample of free -m output command
