Re: Switching from Windows 11, need some beginner advice.

It can be done, but is perhaps a little beyond "easy".

Re: Upate has damaged my desktop menu and panel

I would try Timeshift to fix that, but I have never had that problem.

Re: Timeshift Size

This is my experience. Root (/) is 235 GB. Home is 83 GB. /timeshift is generally 100 GB. The part that TS images is 235 - 83 - 100 = 52 GB. I generally have 11 snapshots. I have always told myself that the first one is roughly 50 GB and incrementals are about 5 GB, but realistically I have seen som...

Re: Why do software sources only shows mirrors from americas?

Anyone that knows programming languages (like python) what the hell does this even mean???
I think it means there is something wrong with importer.py.
Which probably means there is something wrong with your Python.

Re: Switching from Windows 11, need some beginner advice.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm thinking the legacy bios might not be a problem. as of right now all I got is a SD card which wasn't recognized in the BIOS but once I get a USB drive I should be good to go. So windows won't be on the computer when you install LM. That is a good thing. Please boo...

Re: De-Etching

gParted is preinstalled in Mint after all.
I think you might be right about that, but others are pretty adamant that gParted is not preinstalled in a new LM install.

Haven't we heard this before when using the KDE Plasma desktop?
Does it work well with the Cinnamon desktop?

That might be your problem. The window manager should be muffin, not Tabby.

Re: Repository unavailable

Software sources from the mint menu does not show the traditional panel, there is nothing visible which happens.
I reinstalled mint sources and synaptic, nothing is showing. I enter the password to open the sources panel and zilch.
Can you show us what zilch looks like?
Here is mine:

Re: Boots too slowly

That inxi looks good. Linux mint usually booted very quickly. But one day, it got slower. Try Timeshift. That might fix this. Have you done anything with containers (bottles or docker) recently? This might be real bad advice . You might want to wait around for a while before you try this: Startup LM...

Re: I got asked unpluged my usb during restart but then got an error for beeing unable to read from a USB drive

will something bad happen if i forcefully turn off the computer? No, not at that point. but im afraid i might cause damage to other pc's if i do so, is my fear justified? It is certainly possible to cause damage, but as long as you don't change anything in the bios, and don't hit Install LM when yo...

Re: De-Etching

On Linux Mint Cinnamon just open the menu and search for "Disk" Then delete the 3 partitions marked "D" here using the minus key: . part.png . Then push the gear button and format the single partition to FAT. For my 4 GB drive that format took about 17 minutes. The drive is Read...

Re: is it possible to move my unencrypted drive to a encrypted partioion without deleteing everything

I don't know a lot about this, so don't put too much value in my comments. After reading this: https://linuxconfig.org/basic-guide-to-encrypting-linux-partitions-with-luks Here are my thoughts: Is it possible to separate my solid state drive into two partitions Yes. and then transfer all the data ef...

grep -i "shiv*" *xls Change that to: grep -i shiv *xls or just grep -i shiv * Edit: xls is a binary file. grep will not work reliably on the contents of a binary file. Convert the files to CSV and grep those. Please confirm that you are looking for shiv INSIDE these file, and not on the f...

I would not use the Edge version on an old laptop. Try the regular version.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Please type this in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrzc0 --usb Post the output to this forum in "Code" tags. The button that inserts these Code tags is marked </>, which is in the mini toolbar above the edit box where you type your reply. https://forums.linuxmint.com/...
