Re: Any thoughts about upgrading this forum?

Things sink fast if not 'upvoted' or 'liked' enough, and due to the platform encouraging 'spam' posting, many topics disappear so fast they never become a conversation of any note. Good luck trying to patch together a decent technical solution from disparate conversations on Reddit for example. I'm...

Re: installation of gEDA in mint20

No, it doesn't. Your "empty" off-topic post seems more strange, sorry. It was an observation that, having posed the question there was no further interaction (now for 16 weeks) so clearly the OP is not interested in getting an answer - or is not polite enough to acknowledge an answer if i...

Forum owners should not limit themselves to their closed world, but go out to people. Create the same public forum on social networks or promote on YouTube, for example.
Why? Ludicrous. We have no need nor desire to know what you had for breakfast or which bars you frequent.

I'm having a hard time imagining a 'like' button that could show such nuance as your words convey: 'I agree with the above, except for the bit about...'
If we had likes, that clause would not have been there to disagree with and a "like" would have done it.

Re: Any thoughts about upgrading this forum?

Here's a case where a like button would save me having to say I agree with the above, except for the bit about likes. A Like is not the same as an up-vote. But expanding on that: the character of a forum is pretty much defined by the default display option (some forums let you choose, but the majori...

Re: New 2tb external hard drive not recognized

So I reformated it as NTSC I don't think so! If you did somehow manage to do that, it would explain much. Presuming you mean NTFS, I think the only conclusion is there's something wrong with the drive. There's nothing unusual in Win10 corrupting a drive (just by plugging it in) so that other OSes c...

Re: Sound on left channel only on LM 20

My prediction is that results from the speakers could vary each time you plug headphones in and remove them again. If so, this is because the switch contacts which break (on insertion) and make (on removal) are making poor contact, and it would be possible to repair by replacing the socket assembly,...

It is probably something to do with proprietary drivers not hardware issues.
Excuse me if I find it extremely weird that a driver issue could affect just one channel, not both.

Re: Sound on left channel only on LM 20

About hardware issues, i am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with it, because back when it had windows 10 installed it worked fine. I also remember it used to have an specific control panel just for the sound of the notebook, it was probably installed with the soundchip driver itself. It's got to...

very likely already knows that all his issues could be solved with buying more memory sticks.
You don't know that. The OP might have had no idea it is even a possibility, or realise that often there is a removable hatch on the underside of notebooks which give direct access.

Re: Best App to convert Music CD to mp4? Solved

It is highly recommended that people rip their CD's into a "lossless" format which can easily be converted at another time I'll second that. It used to be the case that HDD space was expensive, so there was no room to save a .WAV along with the .MP3, but there is little excuse now (and th...

Re: Best App to convert Music CD to mp4? Solved

I'm surprised this thread is marked "solved" (even ignoring the error in the title) - it's asking about the best app, not just any app. Ripping a CD to MP3 isn't just a conversion issue, which is why Sound Converter deferred to Sound Juicer. A standard audio CD isn't a set of files in the ...

That depends on how much physical ram you already have
Less than 2GB according to the inxi report in the first post.

It strikes me that zRAM is clutching at straws. It would be better to investigate upgrading the RAM.

Doesn't it strike anybody as odd that the OP stated his question about 7 weeks ago as his first post on the forum and hasn't been seen since?

Everything worked fine, except for the speaker audio which is only working on the left channel (Headphones are fine though).
Apologies for stating the obvious, but I suppose you are sure it's not a hardware problem?

Re: Any thoughts about upgrading this forum?

If I want to quote multiple posts in one single reply, I scroll down to the overview of the thread (below the reply entry box), select what I want to quote, and click the 'quote' button next to that post. I repeat this for all posts that I want to quote from. It's an underdocumented feature, but it...

Re: Any thoughts about upgrading this forum?

I really love Mint and this forum. The members and managers/admins are quite helpful and friendly and I truly appreciate all the help and good will. I was wondering why this forum looks so unattractive (IMHO) and old, no offence. Especially compared with such a polished and well made product. Even ...

Trying to run Micro-Cap 12 in Wine under LM20 Cinnamon

I've downloaded the following: http://www.spectrum-soft.com/download/download.shtm With the "full CD" (58 MB download) zip unzipped into /home/[user]/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/MicroCap12CD (I created the folder), clicking setup.exe went like a breeze and I ended up with desktop icons for ...
