Re: Smartphone dumb and don't care to learn (AUDIO)

Well, it's just as well you're a mod and not me, because I can only see the faintest hint (if that) of anything "on topic" (ie that he's running Mint).

Re: Smartphone dumb and don't care to learn (AUDIO)

Indeed it APPEARS to be the ticket. But have you ever spent some big bucks for something you knew NOTHING about only to discover you screwed-up because there was something you did not understand? Sure, but we can only read the product information the same as you. If I need to ask questions because ...

Or even noise-cancelling headphones. Talking to your neighbor in a friendly way, which was already suggested, would be the first step to potential success though. I thought about my approach to this non-"issue", and concluded this forum is not about counselling so decided to answer the technical que...

Re: Smartphone dumb and don't care to learn (AUDIO)

Would a Behringer B112 MP3 work as a stand alone unit to play music from a USB thumb drive? I find it hard to understand why you think it might not, assuming you bothered to read any of the specifications and information published about this unit. Eg: What a great speaker! Sounds great, a whole lot...

Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

Thanks for your work and help . If it's help you're looking for, you need to open a thread in an appropriate area of the forum. its related to the main topic.. First of all: - A new question deserves a new topic. That's a rule we have here. So yes, it's related, but that's not a good reason to post...

Re: Smartphone dumb and don't care to learn (AUDIO)

For my DJ'ing I run a pair of 300W powered speakers (ie self-contained with the amp and PSU built in) from the headphone output jack on my notebook (Windows, admittedly, but there's nothing that would stop Mint doing the same... or indeed a smartphone or tablet). I also have a mixer in between, but ...

Re: Internet for All, a good or bad thing ?

Therefore, if possible, you need to very carefully check any important information on the Internet (regardless of the source of information) I do, but many don't. The phenomenon of "confirmation bias" means people are generally more inclined to accept anything which confirms their beliefs without s...

Re: Internet for All, a good or bad thing ?

One of the problems with a free-for-all Internet (or rather, the user of a free-for-all Internet) is the spread of misinformation. People are psychologically inclined to believe whatever supports their particular views, even if it is untrue or later revealed as untrue. Take the spread of misinformat...

Sorry, but you need to post an appropriate query in a help section of the forum. This is a poll thread in the chat section, not the help section.

I am not sure what is the "problem facing astronomers" that you mention. I'm not sure what problem he means, but there is definitely a problem when there is a significant risk that any particular research photo of the night sky is contaminated by the passage of a satellite, however faint it might b...

Re: Internet for All, a good or bad thing ?

Democratisation of information must be a good thing, but governments have ways to censor it. Zillions of private-enterprise satellites in orbit cannot be a good thing overall, and Musk should never have been granted a licence to launch. at least the download speeds are good enough for us to enjoy "b...

Re: Guidance Building Up my Mint PC

I normally buy my Adaptec cards from China, off ebay. They seem to be cheaper. I made my principles turn their backs for a minute and did (a 6805, with battery pack although I'm not sure I'll use it just for mirror RAID). Estimated delivery was 3-18 Aug. It turned up today (27th July)! Just waiting...

Re: Do the pages on forums.linuxmint.com need updating?

Who cares, unless you have a particular visual problem, in which case any scheme will be a problem for somebody.

Why does a discussion forum need to be funky or visually-impressive? Simple is best.

It works for me, as it is. Change would be change for change sake.

Re: How to disable the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in?

Look in system settings, mouse & touchpad: ... In System settings and not in Mouse and Touchpad settings? Oh well.. Thank you. :) There's a lot of apparent inconsistency like that! What would be a logical place for some isn't necessarily the logical place for the implementers. For what it's worth: ...

Re: CherryTree doesn't open at all

Welcome to Linux. Thank you. I'm late to the party, but it is obvious that these decentralized projects are going to be of critical importance in communication freedoms from now on. I'll be sticking with Linux. I can see Mint continuing to be particularly influential. Ditto. It sounds to me you hav...

Re: CherryTree doesn't open at all

By the way: I don't think it has been explained above; my understanding of a flatpak is that it comes with all the dependencies, regardless of whether they should already be available. This means the package can run in a foreign (or un-updated) desktop, for example.

Re: CherryTree doesn't open at all

it is a foreign concept to me that an app can be installed 3 or more different ways Welcome to Linux. You have to leave behind a lot of preconceptions from Windows, "foreign" will be the norm from now on. Very little of what you think you know about computers applies here; just because the Mint GUI...
