Re: Sound on left channel only on LM 20

My prediction is that results from the speakers could vary each time you plug headphones in and remove them again. If so, this is because the switch contacts which break (on insertion) and make (on removal) are making poor contact, and it would be possible to repair by replacing the socket assembly,...

It is probably something to do with proprietary drivers not hardware issues.
Excuse me if I find it extremely weird that a driver issue could affect just one channel, not both.

Re: Sound on left channel only on LM 20

About hardware issues, i am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with it, because back when it had windows 10 installed it worked fine. I also remember it used to have an specific control panel just for the sound of the notebook, it was probably installed with the soundchip driver itself. It's got to...

very likely already knows that all his issues could be solved with buying more memory sticks.
You don't know that. The OP might have had no idea it is even a possibility, or realise that often there is a removable hatch on the underside of notebooks which give direct access.

Re: Best App to convert Music CD to mp4? Solved

It is highly recommended that people rip their CD's into a "lossless" format which can easily be converted at another time I'll second that. It used to be the case that HDD space was expensive, so there was no room to save a .WAV along with the .MP3, but there is little excuse now (and th...

Re: Best App to convert Music CD to mp4? Solved

I'm surprised this thread is marked "solved" (even ignoring the error in the title) - it's asking about the best app, not just any app. Ripping a CD to MP3 isn't just a conversion issue, which is why Sound Converter deferred to Sound Juicer. A standard audio CD isn't a set of files in the ...

That depends on how much physical ram you already have
Less than 2GB according to the inxi report in the first post.

It strikes me that zRAM is clutching at straws. It would be better to investigate upgrading the RAM.

Doesn't it strike anybody as odd that the OP stated his question about 7 weeks ago as his first post on the forum and hasn't been seen since?

Everything worked fine, except for the speaker audio which is only working on the left channel (Headphones are fine though).
Apologies for stating the obvious, but I suppose you are sure it's not a hardware problem?

Re: Any thoughts about upgrading this forum?

If I want to quote multiple posts in one single reply, I scroll down to the overview of the thread (below the reply entry box), select what I want to quote, and click the 'quote' button next to that post. I repeat this for all posts that I want to quote from. It's an underdocumented feature, but it...

Re: Any thoughts about upgrading this forum?

I really love Mint and this forum. The members and managers/admins are quite helpful and friendly and I truly appreciate all the help and good will. I was wondering why this forum looks so unattractive (IMHO) and old, no offence. Especially compared with such a polished and well made product. Even ...

Re: Trying to run Micro-Cap 12 in Wine under LM20 Cinnamon

How about the executable. Have you tried that? Do you want me to try that for you on Play on Linux? Anybody willing to give anything a shot very welcome (especially those who know what they're doing). The "executable" download is only a stripped down download for updating from an older ve...

Trying to run Micro-Cap 12 in Wine under LM20 Cinnamon

I've downloaded the following: http://www.spectrum-soft.com/download/download.shtm With the "full CD" (58 MB download) zip unzipped into /home/[user]/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/MicroCap12CD (I created the folder), clicking setup.exe went like a breeze and I ended up with desktop icons for ...

Re: Guidance Building Up my Mint PC

Result! Hmm. I might have spoken too soon. I don't seem to be able to save anything, and when I tried to "open" it froze (now I'm trying to work out how to force it to close without simply rebooting). Okay, "wineserver -k". Latest run even crashed the whole PC! I don't think fai...

Re: Guidance Building Up my Mint PC

Long period not doing much (not on the Mint PC anyway). A few months ago I got fed up with the tower PC (under development) being spread around my sitting room, it was in a state where I had a few more hardware tweaks but it was essentially complete, so I bolted on the covers and moved it under my d...

Re: LM 20.0 an utter disaster on less than latest hardware.

I went to the Salisbury Air Show with the intention of seeing the Vulcan on its farewell tour, but my mate (into such things) picked up that it had changed its route (or timing) due to a fuel leak or something and I was on a schedule to get back. We did a chase in the car to where we could intercept...

Re: Passwords AGAIN!

You declined in the original post to state what the actual problem is that you're trying to solve, " Neve mind why..." The reason is I do not appreciate people answering the question they think you should ask rather than the question you actually asked. There's a lot of that: "I want...
