Choosing software

I have recently migrated from OpenSuse to LMDE4. I am now having to chose which software to install to handle some of my daily tasks. It is my understanding that I should first look for GTK+ applications. But, what is the next best option? Gnome based? For example, today, I found a problem with Rumm...

Re: Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer

So, I thought I would give a final closing post about how I got this to work. 1) The LMDE4 installer just did not see the windows installation at the point where it should have suggested dual-boot. The LM 19.3 installer did see it. This bug(?) was not resolved, just worked around 2) I created all th...

Left SUSE for LMDE4, how do I do xxx on LM?

I have recently divorced SUSE and am now dating LMDE4. There are a few things that I could do on SUSE that I have not found the equivalent to on LM. 1) On SUSE, I used the multi-desktop "pager" I am now using the LM "workspace grid and pager". (I normally have 12 active workspaces.) a) Is there anyw...

Re: Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer

Well, I have successfully added a boot entry that was retained. The only issue I have is getting bootorder to work. I am seriously considering just putting a startup item in LMDE that runs efibootmgr and sets nextboot everytime I boot LMDE. Not the best, but ...

Re: Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer

Ignore this particular post (I did not have all the correct double "\" when I tried creating a new boot menu entry so the path was invalid. Once I used a valid path, it was retained. But, it is still not retaining the BOOTORDER setting, that is still a problem.) I'm not aware of any special LMDE in...

Re: Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer

Just wondering. Although efbootmgr does not seem to correctly write the BIOS, what program did the install use that was able to correctly write the Debian entry to the BIOS? Is it something I can install and play with?

Re: Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer

Thanks, but more time working with this and I still don't have a final solution. This HP does not let me edit the EFI boot loader from the BIOS screen. Additionally, when I make changes using efibootmgr, the changes are overwritten the next time I boot. New boot entries are removed and the boot orde...

Re: Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer

I performed manual partitioning and still have a small problem that is related, but I think is a different issue. After installation, my HP Pavillian dv7 wants to boot to directly to windows 10 only. If I use the bios prompt, select boot device options, I see the following options: OS boot Manager O...

Re: Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer

Is there a different installer in LMDE 4 vs. the one in LM 19.3?
Or, is this a bug that needs addressing?
While I am not afraid of gparted, the minute I manually format everything, is when any chance of figuring out the problem will be gone.

Re: Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer

From LMDE 4 live CD:
ls /sys/firmware
response does includes efi

sudo os-prober
response:
/dev/sda1@/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi: Windows Boot Manager:Windows:efi

LM 9.3 live CD has the same responses.

Thanks,

Windows 10 system not seen by LMDE4 installer (solved, somewhat)

I have a UEFI booting HP with Windows 10. When I arrive at the install screen where I should have the option to install along side of Windows, that option is not available. In contrast, if I try to install LM 19.3, then I do see the option. Before I give up on LMDE 4, and just go with LM 19.3, does ...
