Re: LibreOffice Calc guidance

I have a copy of 8 bit versions of Visicorps Visicalc as well as a copy of Infomix Smartware 2 and a full program of Angoss Software v2.52 from 1993 all of which are on 3.5” floppies floppies all stashed away amongst other oldies in a box. Now they ARE old. They were for my 64k Commodore Pet. I neve...

Re: LO Calc calculations

My inexperience in database design is the main reason I am using Calc first. I have designed a couple of small data bases but this will be a bigger project. I have, though, done a fair bit or reading up on design but putting into practice on this scale will be a new experience for me. And yes, I do ...

Re: LibreOffice Calc guidance

I am still leaning about both spreadsheet and database design. They are both huge subjects, each in its own right. That is not meant to put you off either though. Yes, there is a vast amount of information and advice ‘out there’. The trouble I always find is that what you want to know is not exactly...

Re: LO Calc calculations

Your supposition is correct, lsemmens. The plan is to gather all the data into a spreadsheet and once that is finalised create a database from it. I am not very familiar with DB design so thought it best to have all the fields (columns) that are needed for the DB tables before sitting down and creat...

Re: LO Calc calculations

To clarify. Here is an image of what I have at present image_02.jpg The code in cell N9 is =IF(M9="","",DATEVALUE(K9 & "/" & L9 & "/" & M9)) As the day number is missing from cell K9 the output I would like in cell N9 would be “May 1872” If K9 actually contained a number, for argument sake 2 but the...

Re: LO Calc calculations

Thanks for the suggestion JoeFootball. My examples were incomplete in as much as I way already using an ‘if’ function to prevent a whole pile of errors in rows where data had not yet been entered. It is a version of the ‘if’ function I use a lot. e.g. =IF(M7="","",DATEVALUE(K7 & "/" & L7 & "/" & M7)...

LO Calc calculations

I am working on a large Calc spreadsheet for a client that contains a lot of historical data concerning a small village school, the original documentation for which originates from the 1880s and carries on through until at least the 1990s. The source documents have columns that contain the dates pup...

Re: LibreOffice Calc guidance

Are you stuck with a particular problem or is it just general information you are after? If the former just post it here.

Re: Considerations multi booting on an SSD

I am still reading through this post https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=30623 as well as the links it contains. By all accounts, Fred was a genius. (Probably still is, just no longer active here.) That thread is ten years old. Should not be relied on for anything. As for the Firefox ...

Re: 19.2 Firefox wrong version

Thank you for the background Karl. As you say many ways lead to Rome. In my case I do not actually want to run FF on the 19.2 machine as a primary machine. The 18.3 machine is my primary one and the whole purpose of the exercise, as indicated in my other post, was to check software and file compatib...

Re: Considerations multi booting on an SSD

The heading I chose for this post was “Considerations multi booting on an SSD” I have discovered that one of the considerations is that I cannot use Firefox in the way that I have always done. Please see my post at https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=305969&p=1719121#p1719121 That post...

Re: 19.2 Firefox wrong version

Not too sure about your second thing karlchen although useful knowledge. The objective here was not to create a new profile on the 19.2 machine, only to see what implications there were should I decide to upgrade my 18.3 one. Hence my other post referred to above. This issue is most definitely an ‘i...

Re: 19.2 Firefox wrong version

If you're running your web browser with sudo you've got bigger problems tbh. Not only will that mess up all kinds of things, it also means any browser malware will get full control of your system. Congratulations. Sorry, that was a typo. I only run profilemanager as a normal user. That code box sho...

Re: 19.2 Firefox wrong version

For many years now I have used a separate drive for my data. Data to me included both Firefox and Thunderbird profiles. Using ‘profilemanager’ on the installed machine makes it easy to access the Mozilla profiles wherever they are stored on that machine. I go further though. My data partition is sha...

Re: 19.2 Firefox wrong version

I am more or less certain that the file ownership and permissions had nothing to do with it but when you have run out of ‘normal’ ideas you have got to look further afield. The annoying thing is that there must be thousands of users who have upgraded without any similar problems and to compound that...

Re: Considerations multi booting on an SSD

Thank you rene. That is what I would expect, but I don't see that as a problem. Probably just my ignorance. Can it cause other conflicts then, and if so how please?.

19.2 Firefox wrong version

Running LM 19.2 on a spare machine to test file compatibility with those on my 18.3 machine. Copied all of my data from 18.3 into a folder on the 19.2 machine and that includes both Firefox and Thunderbird profiles. Closed down both FF and TB on the 18.3 machine then, on the 19.2 machine used $ sudo...
