Re: Automatically Rescale Cinnamon on switching displays

I'm interested in this as well. I have a similar setup, but I'm often connecting to a HD-only TV via HDMI and have to manually switch scaling between the different displays.

Re: Award for breaking MS Linux

So Microsoft is admitting that a Linux based server OS is superior to their Windows NT based server OS. Because that is the ONLY thing the article said. It's not a server-based OS, it's for low-powered IoT devices. This is a completely different paradigm to desktop computing and the attack surface ...

Kernel origin

Sorry if this isn't the correct place to ask this - I had a look around and didn't see anywhere that jumped out as better. This question has been eating at the back of my mind for a while. Do the dev team make changes to the kernels for Mint, or do they come straight from Canonical? I ask because I'...

Re: File transfer hangs for a long time before finishing

I have noticed the same thing on Mint since v17, but I always thought it was a bug in the progress bar, not a problem with the transfer speed itself. If you have a USB drive with an LED, you can see it's still blinking away while the progress bar appears to have stopped, when the LED stops blinking,...

Re: Web hosting and domain registration

I did open an account in Github.com but now I am quite confused about how to upload html pages. I mean I just want to use FTP Filezilla to upload them in masse but all I see is talk about repositories, projects, etc. Is there an easy way to just upload files using FTP? Because if I need to learn to...

Re: Web hosting and domain registration

I see you have your own domain and I guess it redirects to your blog. How does that work and how much does it cost? It costs only what you pay the registrar for your domain, then you configure it to point to the GH pages site. I can't remember exactly how to do that off the top of my head. I have s...

Re: Web hosting and domain registration

I take it they put code into my pages? Like they have all done since the days of Geocities. As time goes by I have less interest but I would welcome a hosting place where I could just upload all my pages using FTP. I guess having ads inserted is the price I would have to pay? It's kinda similar to ...

Re: which browser you prefer

Firefox. Been using it since ~1.2 (ish?). Love it. I'm a web dev and use it for development every day. What search engine do you use? After all, if you get Google to do the search on Firefox, your not much further ahead. DuckDuckGo is my main goto. I will use Google occasionally for difficult-to-fi...

Re: Web hosting and domain registration

Depending on what you want to do, I've found Github pages to be very useful. Every Github account can serve one site from {your_account_name}.github.io for free. I run two sites from it and it works very well (I have two accounts). Of course it's static only, so you get no server-side logic, but for...

The second thread seems to have worked for me (several reboots and normal driver loading).

Thanks for the pointers!

[SOLVED] GeForce drivers randomly not loading

Hey all, I installed Mint 19.3 Cinnamon a few days ago and I'm getting some weird behaviour from my video card drivers. I have a GeForce GTX 1060 and I'm using one of the drivers recommended by the driver manager (it presents with a choice of three: nvidia-driver-390, nvidia-driver-435 and nvidia-dr...
