Re: Cannot load webpages via wireless connection

Brilliant fix (god I love the Mint forums). Just to add my details, perhaps to make it easier for others to find what they're searching for: I recently upgraded from Mint 10 to Mint 13 (Maya). With the older Mint release, I was successfully able to connect to internet and browse webpages over wirele...

Re: Maya Cinnamon LiveDVD doesn't load correctly

OK, so there's an enlightening discussion here:

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 41#p583241

Upshot so far suggests that Cinnamon may not be ready just yet for some of these ancient/primitive graphics cards. But the thread is still active and there may be other ideas forthcoming.

Re: Mate or Cinnamon?

Thank you for your very enlightening response. ! same here..Just teat ran Cinnamon and all I get is a solid blue screen and my pointer...I tried twice and same problem. What graphics card do you have? I wasn't the poster of either of the above messages, but I have the same issue (Mint 13 Cinnamon 3...

Re: Maya Cinnamon LiveDVD doesn't load correctly

I just popped in the Maya Cinnamon 32-bit LiveDVD and get exactly the same behavior --- things are functional, but the blue screen makes it impossible to actually use. This is a waaay old machine with an Intel 82685G Integrated Graphics Controller, and that's probably got something to do with it. I'...

Re: Dual Boot Problems with Win7: Reloc offset is...

Just to add to Auld_Reekie's post with some further details from my experience ... A friend with a Dell 1545 and Windows 7 / Mint 8 dual boot was prompted to run Dell's DataSafe utility and ran into the same problem. The simple solution was to reinstall grub2, an operation for which there are severa...

I went back to look for updates in that same ubuntuforums thread (I understand that searching is tough for you, so I am copying things here) and here are the latest (semi-useful) posts: ------------------- Re: Mouse won't work and maybe keyboard You don't need to reinstall since that's not the issue...

Re: Mouse unresponsive

I just took a quick look at the Ubuntu forums and found a promising thread for essentially the same issue ... the thread is still in progress but the latest post suggests the following: "You seem to have a conflict with other USB devices if the keyboard or mouse is also USB. Remove any other devices...

Re: clean installation of Mint 8 over Ubuntu 9.10

As I recall, the Mint team actually recommends doing a clean install --- following an upgrade path is possible, but not without risk, and (again this is my recollection) the philosophy is that that risk shouldn't be hidden behind a standard upgrade procedure. So you're making a solid choice by going...

Re: Can't Adjust LCD Backlight on Laptop

The solution brought by lagagnon is the best one. This didn't work for me... any other suggestions? (Dell Studio 15 Series) Kate, Did you try the workaround I suggested above? 1. switch to terminal with CTRL-ALT-F1 2. use your laptop's normal brightness keys to adjust brightness --- they will work ...

Re: Middle mouse button not working

I just upgraded to Helena on my thinkpad x61 and re-applied the above steps to get the middle mouse button working, and this time around I modified the settings for opera as well as firefox (so that opera will scroll with the middle mouse button like it does on windows, rather than navigating back/f...

Re: CPU Runs 20+ Degrees Hotter with Mint 7

So I've just installed Helena RC1 and am very pleased to report that my laptop is no longer running hot (which is to say, it is running at temperatures comparable to those under Windows XP). Morgen, you should give Helena a try if you haven't already.

Further to my own post --- I am just noting what I learn as I go through this in case someone else does the same stupid thing as me, which is unlikely: Found this post on the ubuntu forum, in a useful thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8223256&postcount=17 which shows that I need to run:...

Re: made a major mistake with mintUpdate - any ideas?

OK, so getting a little further with my own question: From this topic in the ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1319214&highlight=roll+back+update it looks like rollback is not possible, which is after all what I would have expected. So that leaves either "pushing forward" to He...

made a major mistake with mintUpdate - any ideas?

Hi all, I've shot myself in the foot pretty badly and would be grateful for any suggestions about how to undo my error. (File this one under "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing") Prelude to this story: I've been using Gloria for a few months. I'm very happy with it, but I'm also a first-time li...

Re: CPU Runs 20+ Degrees Hotter with Mint 7

I hate to post an inexact reply to a thread, but I have some experience of the temperature issue and figure my two cents may be a bit helpful. First, what Morgen reports is real. I've seen the same thing, and the Ubuntu forums have lots of similar reports. Second, to the best of my belief it's hardw...

I've just posted about how to get the middle mouse button scrolling working here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=178743#p178743 As for trackpoint acceleration and sensitivity: First, I haven't found a good definition of sensitivity anywhere, but if you're using the Control Center > Mous...
