Re: Can't Run Command from Terminal
I finally figured it out. I had to be in the game's folder where run_game.sh was located. I then right-clicked the mouse and selected "open in termina"'. Then I used the command: ./run_game.sh --gamepad-debug It did what I wanted. I wasn't aware that I had to use ./ to run bash files from ...

Can't Run Command from Terminal
I downloaded an open source game from Github. I think I downloaded what's called a binary installation - it has a tar.xz extension and I double click a file call run_game.sh to start the game. There's supposed to be a way to calibrate the gamepad using the command line. I tried running the command b...

Should I upgrade RAM for Mint 21.1?
I currently have 8 GB RAM with Mint 19.3 Cinnamon (I know I need to upgrade the OS). With the programs I'm running, I probably use almost 5 GB RAM. Mint 19.3 Cinnamon recommends 2 GB RAM whereas 21.1 Cinnamon recommends 4 GB. Does that mean I should probably upgrade RAM? I don't want to spend money ...

Re: How can I connect old SSD to move files to new SSD?
What type is the old SSD? 2.5", mSATA, M.2, PCIe, or …? If you have the brand & model of the SSD an internet search will likely answer that if you don't know. The computer on which you will be installing a new Linux Mint to a new SSD, is it a desktop or laptop computer? Oops! Sorry. It's a...

How can I connect old SSD to move files to new SSD?
When I upgrade Mint to the latest version, I intend to use a new SSD. After I do all this, how can I connect my current SSD so I can move my personal files to the new SSD? This will just be temporary, I think. I'm not sure what I intend to do long-term. Thanks.

Firejail is being shown as bit miner threat
I just downloaded the Firejail deb from GitHub. Both Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm show it as: Not-a-virus:HEUR:RiskTool.Script.BitMiner.Gen Is this a false positive? I would assume that since this is an open source project that it wouldn't actually have malware in it. It looks like the previous versions ...

Is there a way to Rename a 2nd Game Controller?
My system is: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia - Cinnamon 4.4.8 I have two identical game controllers - Power A Enhanced Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch (I don't see a model #). My video game is picking them up as "Bensussen Deutsch & Associates,Inc.(BDA) NSW Wired controller." The problem ...

Can I Have Two Connected Keyboards?
I have an old PS/2 keyboard connected to my computer with one of those PS/2 to USB dongles. I want to test out an old wireless USB keyboard. Do I need to disconnect the PS/2 keyboard first? Or can I have them both connected at the same time? Only asking because disconnecting requires crawling on the...

How Exactly Do I Install This through Terminal?
I need to install Element messaging client, but I'm not sure how to do that exactly. Here's what the Element website has for using it on Debian/Ubuntu systems: sudo apt install -y wget apt-transport-https sudo wget -O /usr/share/keyrings/element-io-archive-keyring.gpg https://packages.element.io/d...

Weird "jerks" and lags in Game
I use my computer for three things: web browsing, watching videos, and playing SuperTuxKart. I am having a problem with lag in SuperTuxKart that I believe is caused by my computer, but I am unsure. It primarily happens when playing online in the soccer mode. It's getting worse and no one else seems ...

Security Questions about Wine and Windows Software
When I was first looking for a Linux distro to install, I came across several articles that advised new users from installing anything that had to do with the Windows operating system. It said not to install Windows emulators like Wine and don't install any Windows software. I don't remember the exa...

Running Mint From a Flash Drive
I have Mint 19.3 installed on my computer. Is it possible to run (not install) Mint 20.2 from a flash drive and use ProtonVPN with it? I mean, can I "install" ProtonVPN on Mint 20.2 even though it would be running off a flash drive? If all this is possible, where can I find the best tutori...

Re: NBC Video Eats Memory - Freezes Computer
I watched the video for about 5 minutes, no issues here on FF, and 19.3 Cinnamon No, you have to watch until after the first commercial - about 11 minutes. You could just skip ahead to just before the first commercial, then watch until the show comes back from commercial break. That's when the prob...

Re: NBC Video Eats Memory - Freezes Computer
Firstly, I do have a script blocker in Firefox. I allowed everything that was needed to view the video. When watching the video, the RAM is at 1.9 GB (25%) and the CPU fluctuates between 20-25% on all four cores UNTIL I get to the first commercial break (technically ad 3 of 5). At the first commeric...

NBC Video Eats Memory - Freezes Computer
I am trying to watch a free TV show on NBC's website. I've tried using Chromium and Firefox with and without the extensions disabled. No matter what, after the first commercial, the browser starts eating all of the computer's memory until the computer freezes. I can watch videos on other websites wi...

Re: Using Flash Drives Between Linux and Windows
Thanks. Although, it doesn't do any good having backups when you can't find them. I wrote all this data down on paper and put it into a spreadsheet in 2018-2019. Now I want that data and I don't have access to that computer at this time. I can't remember where I put the papers when I moved all this ...

Using Flash Drives Between Linux and Windows
Totally noob question. Would there be any issues with using a flash drive between different operating systems such as Linux, Windows 10, Windows 7, and Windows XP? The flash drive has only been used with Windows, so I wasn't sure if there would be any file corruption if I used it with Linux. ...

Is There a Program to Map/Bind Keys to a Mouse?
I have a game that only works with a keyboard or gamepad. I would like to be able to use a keyboard and a mouse. Is there any way to map or bind the four directional keys to a mouse? More specifically, when I move the mouse left, I want it to be like I'm pressing the left arrow key. The same applies...
