Re: Odd terminal behaviour

Haha, of course, my apologies.

I'm using Mint 8 with gnome as the desktop environment.

Thus, gnome-terminal is the culprit.

Odd terminal behaviour

Heya, I'm having a very odd problem with the terminal upon closing it. I find it easier to just type in "exit" into the terminal when closing it, as I try to refrain from using the mouse as much as possible, just simply because I work faster that way. However, as of a couple of days ago, w...

Computer shut down during addition of files to archive

I'm using an ext4 file system, and I was adding files to an archive when the laptop shut down (dead battery). Now, upon reboot, the archive is gone. The files I was adding are still there, but the archive was a pre-existing archive with nearly four GB of information, and I was simply adding a folder...

GDM login -> Is there a way to edit it in Helena yet?

Hey,

just wondering if there was a GUI application for editing the GDM login settings for Mint 8 yet? I know that it's tricky to get around Gnome's integration with xsplash, but all of the methods I've tried seemed to have resulted in copious amounts of fail so far.

Re: Close all open terminals

Assuming you're using Gnome, the command

Code: Select all

killall gnome-terminal

should do the trick.

Re: itunes install ?

Be forewarned, zackattack, iTunes does NOT play nice with Linux very often. You might consider sticking with Linux native programmes or Windows+iTunes to update your iPod/iPhone and/or manage your music.

Re: Rainmeter substitute

Thorak1: What exactly are you looking to do with this rainmeter substitute? There are a few very good widgets provided by various Linux programmes that sit on the widget layer of compiz fusion. Are you looking for clocks? Comp information (eg. CPU load, RAM load, etc)?

Re: Sound Problems with Asus C90S and Helena.

Is it something to do with the pulse in the /etc/group settings?

I know that if pulseaudio is using the audio group it can sometimes cut out, leading to reinstallation of the pulseadio packages, but as far as I know, that shouldn't cause my sound to not work at all...

Sound Problems with Asus C90S and Helena.

My sound was working with Gloria, but after installing Helena, I'm getting nothing. I've tried compiling ALSA drivers from source, with a successful readout, but no dice as far as sound. lspci output shows my audio device, and alsamixer picks it up as a Realtek ALC883. I've added myself to the /etc/...

Re: wanting to learn

Call it nerdy, but I actually am just about to buy a copy of Linux for Dummies later on this evening from good ol' Barnes and Noble. And yes, I will be curling up next to the fire with a mug of hot cocoa and some classical music. Maybe not the classical music. Or the hot cocoa. But there will be fir...

Re: Change Mint 4 to Mint 7 (I've got the ISO)

True, and it would actually be a bit faster/more convenient. Maybe it's just me, but I like to start over with a clean partition, kinda like erasing an old picture entirely, or getting a new piece of paper before drawing a new one, as opposed to erasing at the same time you create a new picture, era...

Re: Change Mint 4 to Mint 7 (I've got the ISO)

There are several ways to do this, in reality, even involving upgrading your distribution to 7 from inside 4, but what I would recommend, is a complete partition wipe and installation back onto that partition, because it makes things just...less messy, should something go wrong. It's never advisable...

Re: Getting [Errno5] Input output error using unetbootin

Yes, I've used UNetBootIn several times before, but there seems to be an issue with Gloria that I haven't really done any research on personally, I just know that according to Persistent Pendrive, as per their instructions, you need to "fix" the file before you can put in on a USB drive. A...

Haha, I didn't find any disrespect there at all, actually. You are, after all, a lot more intelligent when it comes to Linux than myself, because I haven't spent much time with it.

So, doode5, ignore my lacking-in-knowledge blithering, it appears I need to do some homework, haha. xD

Re: Installing Wine 1.1.27 error

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_(software) According to this Wikipedia article, the latest stable release of WINE is 1.01, and as such, using 1.1.27 might result in errors because the software is only 12 days old. You might try to elimnate variables by using 1.01 and see if it works, then getting ...
