Re: Keyboard symbol (re-)definitions

Hi rene, Thanks for the reply. You're right, the want is not very clear, even to me. I'm exploring what I need to do to get the best result. It is partly a matter of muscle memory. I use other keyboards, and I'm trying to get this keyboard as close as possible to the others. And the Danish keyboard ...

Keyboard symbol (re-)definitions <SOLVED>

I bought an ASUS ZenBook in Norway. I knew and accepted that I'd have keyboard issues, but didn't think it through far enough. I had a number of problems setting up in Windows 10 defining my language (English) and keyboard (Norwegian). Then I installed Linux Mint 19.3 and discovered my keyboard is n...

Access Windows documents from Linux <SOLVED>

I installed Linux Mint 19.3 along side Windows 10 on my ASUS ZenBook with 512GB SSD. To make room, I shrank the the Windows C drive (NTFS) by 50GB. How do I access documents created in Windows from Linux?

OK, go it. Thanks to responders.

Re: <SOLVED>How to restore secure boot

OK, I think I understand what's going on. But first, here are a couple of screenshots from the Mint 19.3 Installation that caused all the trouble (they're actual photos of the screen because I couldn't get Bluetooth to work in the USB session). https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zdwg10iu0c9abw1/AADYOamlm_w3...

Re: How to restore secure boot

You said "As I already said Mint does not turnoff secure boot during installation". There is definitely an option in the installation called "turn off secure boot" with a check box that I ticked. I don't know what the installation does then. But, you are right, I eventually found secure boot in my B...

Re: How to restore secure boot

OK, thanks kato181, this is getting to my problem. I didn't turn off secure boot. The Mint Installation did. It has an option to "turn off secure boot" (so as to get 3rd party software) which I took. To do that, I had to create a password (as part of the Mint Installation) which I assumed would be n...

Re: Tutorial - Install Linux mint 19.3 on Dell Inspiron 3592 NVIDIA GeForce MX230

Hi, I'm very interested in your one line comment "choose to install 3rd party software" in step 3. I did that, and it's causing no end of trouble - see below. Specifically, when you chose to install 3rd party software - and to turn off secure boot - did you specify a password to be used later? Did y...

Re: SOLVED-Installation using proprietary sources

I'm having all sorts of problems with what you are proposing to do. I installed Linix Mint 19.3 on an ASUS ZenBook beside Windows 10. I chose the option to "turn off secure boot" to get the proprietary software, and provided a password as requested. I'm a Newbie and had never heard of secure boot be...

Re: How to restore secure boot

I do not want to disable Secure Boot. It has been disabled by the Linux installation. I want to restore it.

Hello All

So many new things to learn all at once! I'm a retired Australian, caught in Norway by the pandemic, so I thought I'd spend some spare time learning about Linux. After all, they say it's easy - and it probably is - once you know how. Anyway, I bought a laptop (ASUS ZenBook) with Windows 10 on it, an...

Re: How to restore secure boot

No, I didn't disable Secure Boot in BIOS. I was trusting the Linux Mint installation process to guide me through it. At that stage I had never heard of Secure Boot. The first I heard about Secure Boot was on the Linux Mint installation screen which suggested I should tick the box to "turn off secure...

Re: How to restore secure boot - after dsabling during installation

Thank you jonau01. That link seems to be dealing with a situation where the user decides to disable Secure Boot and needs to backup some critical files for later use in re-enabling Secure Boot. That is not my situation. I was doing a Linux Mint installation and had never heard of Secure Boot before ...

How to restore secure boot <SOLVED>

I've just installed Linux Mint 19.3 beside Windows 10 on an ASUS ZenBook. I turned off secure boot and gave a password which I understood is required to restore secure boot. I assumed it would be clear where to do this, but I can't find where. It's pretty important because I now find I can't get int...

Re: What to do about partitions?

Thank you, AndyMH. That worked and I'm in. Can you help with something else? During the install, I turned off secure boot and chose a password which I think is required to turn it on again after the install. How do I do that? It's important because I now find logging in to windows requires a BitLock...

<SOLVED> What to do about partitions?

I'm totally new to all this. I want to install Linux Mint 19.3 beside Windows 10 on a new ASUS ZenBook with 8GB RAM and (nominal) 512GB SSD. I've made a USB boot as per the guide, and got as far as starting to install. The guide says that I can allow the installation process to decide what to do abo...
