How do I make LMDE on USB run better?

Ok, so as you can see in this post https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1825536#p1825536 I finally (at least for my Dell laptop) solved the problem of Linux Mint booting from USB, by using LMDE instead of normal Linux Mint, even managing to do so with an installed copy (not just a live copy)...

Re: How do I make a good USB Live disk?

NOT AN ANSWER to the question asked in the title, but just a thought about how the underlying issue might possibly be explored. I hesitate to suggest what might be regarded as a diversion here, but it might at least help to clarify whether the issue involves the USB burning process or something els...

Re: How do I make a good USB Live disk?

Just wanted to mention I recently had LM booting issues using Unetbootin 377 (windows) to format a USB and eventually tried WinUSB 3.7.0.1 (latest at moment of writing) which while I still had issues (black screen mainly) I was eventually able to boot up LM 19.2 which was never achieved with UnetBo...

Re: How do I make a good USB Live disk?

Try etcher instead: https://www.balena.io/etcher/ Don't use it myself, burn my iso's with mint. Is Etcher really better? I haven't had any more luck with it than with Rufus, and I think Rufus is considered the widely accepted solution for burning an image to a USB stick. It's basically "the un...

Re: Choosing Partition types - GPT or MBR?

Does Linux Mint REQUIRE that the drive be configured with a GPT type of boot sector? No, Mint will happily boot either in legacy or UEFI mode (GPT partition table), if you are having problems it's more likely to be a function of your BIOS. My laptops boot in legacy mode (and will happily boot UEFI ...

Re: Choosing Partition types - GPT or MBR?

Just curious, as this may explain why my USB boot of Linux Mint keeps failing. Does Linux Mint REQUIRE that the drive be configured with a GPT type of boot sector? Or is it also capable of booting from a drive with an MBR style boot sector? So far I've been using MBR because it's a legacy type, and ...

How do I make a good USB Live disk?

My main OS is Windows, and I'm using a program called Rufus to try to burn the ISO to a USB stick (not to a DVD disk). I'm using the latest version of Rufus, which at the time of me writing this is Rufus 3.10. Every single time I try to just burn the ISO to my USB stick, everything works in terms of...
