Re: Installing Mint on various brands of computers
One sublink from provided link, "Lenovo T540 works but UEFI settings critical or it may brick" https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hFTArhNbmpmEBRkwRg0DMbEzLBCl43F1HXoXtJ8cm0k/edit?pli=1, surprised me and also frightened me. I never thought that installing an operating system could brick th...

Try installing Edge edition, https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=287, edition which should work better with very new hardware.

Re: Strange modem log entries
As long as your router has a NAT/firewall, you should be safe. Yes, in IPv4 connections we have NAT. What about IPv6 connections? I am totally lost there. I tried a few times to get familiar with IPv6 but I cannot get how to control lan-wan connections there. Currently, my only solution is to disab...

Re: Atheros AR9271 working but no Internet connection!
You can try next. Boot from the disk, delete all wifi connections in Mint Network Manager, reboot and connect to the wifi in the same way as you connected when you have booted from LM-Install-DVD.

I think that your conversion 0.022113 Billion = 2.2113 Million should be 0.022113 Billion = 22.113 Million.

Re: How to prevent saving cursor position when closing a document?
I opened the dconf Editor , navigated to the /org/x/editor/preferences/editor/ and changed the setting for restore-cursor-position to 0 . After that I opened .bash_history . File opened with cursor position at the beginning. That is what I wanted. Thank you, mikeflan, for the hint. Now I must find a...

<partially SOLVED> How to prevent saving cursor position when closing a document?
When I open an existing file in xed or xreader, the cursor goes to the position where it was when the file was last closed and the document display goes to that place. How can I prevent this?

Re: Semi-SOLVED --Mint 20.1 Cinnamon panel auto hide speed
If I get stretched icons in the panel, I open Panel settings, select Always show panel, change Panel height so that icons become normal, change Panel height back to wished value and select back Intelligently hide panel.

Re: Cinnamon 20.1 panel auto hide speed
That "speed adjustment" works every time I change the value. If I set it to 1.0, logout and login, I get 1 second animation. If I change it back to 0.0, logout and login, panel showing and hiding is instant. That "speed adjustment" works in LM 20.1 Cinnamon and it works also in L...

Re: Cinnamon 20.1 panel auto hide speed
If you mean two settings as in next window capture, no, those settings set to zero do not prevent panel show/hide animation.cliffcoggin wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 9:03 amIn Mint 19 it can be done from Settings. Is that not possible in Mint 20?

Re: Cinnamon 20.1 panel auto hide speed
Try next. Open file /usr/share/cinnamon/js/ui/panel.js in text editor. Search there for the line const AUTOHIDE_ANIMATION_TIME = 0.2; . Change it to const AUTOHIDE_ANIMATION_TIME = 0.0; and save. You should do that as root. Logout and login again. Panel showing and hiding should be instant. Regards,...

Re: "dig" and "nslookup" commands become useless on LM20 (?)
No, I believe by default, that this command is juste reading the content of the DNS Address that I put in my box, but it is not the DNS that resolve my names Though I am nor very knowledgeable in DNS queries, I somehow doubt that it is possible, in Mint only, to identify exactly the name server, wh...

Terminal command
