Re: What do you do with a json file? Patreon has given me some.

Is there a way to display json files so that the data they contain is just displayed without all the coding showing? I assume the coding is meant to format the data? Yes it's meant to format the data. Json is just data with annotation, that's all it is. You can view json data in the browser, there ...

Re: Computer rage. How angry have you gotten at your computing machine?

The most angry I've ever seen, is a flying printer down the stairs with a lot of swear words (wasn't me  ). The living room window had a small window, so saw printer flying and then heard a loud smash Printers are one of the most hated things. Computers make me angry once in a while, but not li...

Interesting to see how open source software affects lives in Asia. I saw something about slavery in Dubai, but don't know if it's the same story. Which country are you in op?

Re: Do you see LM as a 'project' or a 'solution'.

The Linux Mint website refers to LM as a project, and the general Linux community seems to refer to other distributions in the same way. I don't see LM as a project, and I'm curious if any others feel the same. For me a project has a defined start and end, timescales, milestones, a goal, and a sequ...

Re: anti virus on Linux Mint

Even though you agreed with me I'm afraid I am not able to return the courtesy: Windows does no other. The by far most important difference between Windows and Linux in the (anti-) virus context is many less users and vastly less who'd install malware without even thinking (say, children). This tog...

Re: Noscript and Firefox

I have branched this out from another thread on another topic. I do use NoScript in Firefox to stop marketing people inserting 22 GB of Javascript on every page. Thanks for the tip. I have installed it and now will have to experiment and learn to use it. So I installed Noscript but I am findong it ...

Which scripts do you use often?

I used to run a bash scripts that automated tinder (auto like), it would use adb to set the mouse position on the phone and then click. I had web version as well that just used xdotool in a for loop :D

So which scripts made your life better?

Re: A disgruntled windows user ranting on overly complicated Linux

Meh, no-one's making you use it. If you don't like it, don't use it. In corporate environment don't really have a choice. Last time I used Windows it was quite annoying, the gui just seems off. Then those updates when you're just heading home and you'll have to wait until it finishes the update. Pr...

Re: Linux Kernel Memory Leaks Fix

As a non-programmer, I'm curious: how do memory leaks come to exist in the first place? This can happen in a low level language like C. In your program you need reserve memory, so you tell it "give me 1mb" of memory. Then you can use that memory space to place the file you want to load. So your pro...

Re: Backup??

Clonezilla will copy your entire disk, so you have a duplicate. It starts from a Live USB / CD which lets you duplicate your disks. You should have extra disks available that can be wiped or are empty.

Re: A disgruntled windows user ranting on overly complicated Linux

I am a current disgruntled windows user who cannot stand Windows 10. I've been using computers since the mid 80's. So? It should be easy then. Not op, but Windows is rather complicated. Everything must be configured in some kind of GUI that's hidden somewhere. You keep clicking through configuratio...
