Re: Executing files on partition with different file format.

Looks like it worked but you have to do:

Code: Select all

ls -al /mnt/Earnest

Re: Executing files on partition with different file format.

Hmmm. You need to troubleshoot. Can you type: sudo touch fileX && ls -l fileX to create a file owned by root and see the ownership and permissions of fileX, followed by: sudo chown earnest:users fileX && ls -l fileX to see if you can chown a file owned by root to your user and group? If you unmount ...

Re: Executing files on partition with different file format.

Hi Earnest, The EFI partition, /dev/sda1, is supposed to be there to boot the computer. Most computers come with that nowadays as an "invisible" partition you don't normally interact with. You need that and it shouldn't be altered unless you are sure about what you're doing. I'm not sure why it's in...

Re: How To Kernel Patch - Requirement for OpenRGB

$ cat /mnt/mint/boot/config-5.4.0-51-generic | grep PIIX4 CONFIG_I2C_PIIX4=m I looked in the .config file for 5.4.0-51 on Mint (20) and I2C_PIIX4 is build as a module, which is probably not loaded on your machine, which is why you can't see it. If you want additional info on how to build a kernel, ...

Re: How To Kernel Patch - Requirement for OpenRGB

This is the part where I'm at lost: 5. Copy your existing configuration. I don't remember the exact filename of the existing config but it's in /boot. Use tab-complete or a file browser to get the file name and replace "config-file" with this name below. I'm not really sure what the author is talki...

Re: DVDStyler menu and videos pixelated

Hi GrannyPenguin60, That sounds very annoying and wasteful, not to mention very clearly a problem. I only use Brasero to burn my DVDs. It is probably not as full-featured as DVDStyler. Unfortunately, I am not on a Mint computer at this moment, so I can't look up what alternatives are available to yo...

Re: renderdoc doesn't run

When I search with apt-file search, it tells me libSPIRV-Tools.so is in spirv-tools and installed at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libSPIRV-Tools.so . Yours seems to be installed at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libSPIRV-Tools-shared.so . I would make a link with the name qrenderdoc is looking for in the sa...

Re: How to change the "search by typing on the keyboard" behavior in NEMO?

>if you type the beginnings of the file or folder, you can hit the up and down arrows to go to the next item Nope, because the search box steals focus from the view. Arrow keys will move the text cursor inside this box instead of moving the selection inside the view. Yours must be different from my...

Re: Screen freeze and must restart computer : how to investiguate ??

Hi Nicholas, That sounds frustrating! If you could please let us know the output of the command "inxi -Fxxxrz" in the terminal, it might help the people here figure out what is going wrong. Please paste the results between the code tags above (fifth icon above that looks like this: </>). Thanks. Jamie

Re: How to change the "search by typing on the keyboard" behavior in NEMO?

if you type the beginnings of the file or folder, you can hit the up and down arrows to go to the next item. Or you can hit tab to make the search box go away, then hit the right and left arrows.

Re: Application (which are set to auto launch) doesnt launch after login

You might want to try adding a delay to your auto-startup. pcloud may be trying to use some system network service that has not finished initializing yet and failing.

Hi Carla! I think I understand what you are saying but I'm not sure. If I sound crazy, well, it's just me. :-) Sorry if this is too long. If I understand you correctly, you can right click the firetools launchpad, choose "edit", add a name and a command like "firejail libreoffice" or "firejail xcloc...

Re: Unable to locate Simple Scan on my Linux Mint 20

We don't really know it is libsane because libsane depends on other packages and they could be the broken one. What you can do is go into Synaptic, click the "custom filters" button below and click the "broken" butten. It should show you exactly which packages are broken on your system. Or you can t...

Re: Desktop short-cut to a LibreOffice spreadsheet

Hi John and welcome, You can rename the short-cut, but the .xls on the shortcut is needed to let the OS know what to open it with. If you remove it, you can still open the original with the shortcut but you have to tell the OS which application to run. However, if the original is renamed, the shortc...

Re: How do I find the apt-package a binary belongs to?

And if you select a package in Synaptic and select "Properties" it will tell you what installed files it includes, but this only works for installed packages. It also shows you dependents and dependencies.

Re: Could not download all repository indexes - Invalid record in the preferences file, no Package header

You can try a few things.
1. Make sure synaptic isn't running
2. Restart
3. sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/dpkg_lock_check.sh (should not return a number.)
4. sudo mint-refresh-cache

Re: Netflix

I don't know anything about it, but I saw that Netflix is available as an unofficial Kodi add-on. https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/watch-net ... -easy-way/

This does, however, require providing your account login through a third-party app, which isn't a problem if you have a vpn.

Re: install this Qt-based which uses OpenGL in LM19.2

Hi, I'm glad you got it to work! I wish I could help you build a current version but it is not a straightforward build, having over 90 dependencies taking up about a gigabyte of disk space. Try "apt install qtcreator" to see some of them. And then I couldn't figure out which package corresponded to ...

Re: Unable to locate Simple Scan on my Linux Mint 20

Your original error message says the underlying problem is libsane. What do you get when you type "apt policy libsane" in a terminal? Or "apt update" followed by "apt install libsane"?
