Re: Installed Mate in LMDE4

I have LMDE4 32 bit installed (old computer) and Cinnamon is the DE but I wanted to see what would happen with a Mate DE install. The install went well and everything works as expected. https://wiki.mate-desktop.org/#!pages/download.md Just out of curiosity, what Mate version did you install? The m...

Re: Make persistent usb on linux that will load on windows

I want to make a persistent linux usb to boot on the windows laptops at work instead. I'm able to make the persistent usbs from my own linux computer but they don't load on the windows laptops. I'm just left with a flashing cursor. What am I missing? I risk sounding like a broken record, but have y...

Re: boot kali and mint

Great then. 8)

As a moderator on a software forum, I can sympathize; it's just that I haven't had the warmest welcome here, since in my few posts I got called out twice already by high rank users -- instead of just being ignored, which would be the more expected outcome.

Re: I need to purchase a new laptop...

(At the risk of being called a spammer yet again...) If you're in Europe, Slimbook (https://slimbook.es/) is selling some pretty convincing Linux laptops. I think users have been crying out a laptop like the Slimbook Essential . Something affordable, portable and capable combined with a great batter...

Re: boot kali and mint

I assume pnin meant to speak to the OP, catrunner75 , and not zcot . You're right, my bad. Fixed. And advocacy isn't spamming. It took me years to find such an easy to setup multiboot program and I have tested many, believe me. I offered an on-topic clue and got called a spammer. What did you bring...

Re: How to Defend my Computer from Windows?

Just giving back: glad to have brought something new to the table. :)

FYI, one can even run Windows straight out of virtual disks without using any VirtualBox -- e.g., see https://johnpapa.net/bootoffmetal/ and https://forums.ventoy.net/showthread.ph ... 88#pid1488...

Re: How to Defend my Computer from Windows?

Is there a way to move Windows to a virtual machine? The simple answer to this is yes -- take a look at Microsoft's own Disk2vhd ( docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/disk2vhd )... In a nutshell, Disk2vhd will move your Windows files to a virtual disk which you can then attach to a Virt...

Re: boot kali and mint

@catrunner75: While I have no idea how easy it would be to set persistence for a Kali ISO, if I was you I'd take a look at Ventoy (https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_start.html). YMMV, though. :|

Re: Mint 20 to windows 7

windows 7 will not install on the latest release of mobo' thanx to microshaft. But there is a way around by installing mint first, then install and run vbox then install windows 7 through vbox  An easy step-by-step can be found at https://forums.ventoy.net/showthread.php?pid=1488#pid1488 (it'...

Re: How to install Mint to virtual disk?

Hi and thanks for chiming in. 8) Unfortunately, none of those suggestions is an option. There is no Windows 10 , only Seven -- it's a legacy machine that likely won't get upgraded and partitions can't be touched. It would be very nice to be able to run an updated OS in it, as it has been proven Mint...

How to install Mint to virtual disk?

Excuse me beforehand if you found my question dumb or feel it has already been answered somewhere, but I have been mulling this for a long time and still have no clear answer. Please allow me some clarification. Once, Ubuntu had the Wubi utility that resulted in a quick and fast installation into a ...

Re: What Cloud Drive will sync to a Linux Mint machine?

I recently droped Dropbox in favor of Koofr.eu, which is much lighter on my aging laptop.

Koofr has pretty similar features, including desktop clients for Linux and Android.

BTW, if you use my referral link (https://k00.fr/3e5r4q20), then both of us will get an extra 500MB of storage... 8)

Re: Live USB with Data partition

mintymatrix wrote:Seems VENTOY is not available in LM repo
Linux Ventoy is mainly a script with some accompanying files, which can be downloaded freely from https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy/releases.

NB: it doesn't install anything into your system, its purpose is only to create a bootable pendrive from liveISOs.

Re: Live USB with Data partition

Can we use USB Image Writer or Start Up Disk Creator ( both of which are available in repo ) to make a bootable pen drive and then use Gparted to create a new partition etc as you mentioned ? Yet another suggestion is to try Ventoy in either Linux or Windows... As noted in https://ventoy.net/en/doc...

Re: Installing Linux Mint from USB stick?

I have had a similar problem in the past and it was caused by a wrong or absent partition ID triggering Windows to want to format the drive. My solution was to use Bootice (https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Boot-Manager-Disk/Bootice.shtml) to change that ID. Bootice is a single executable for Win...

Ooooh! I see it now. Apart from being dyslexic, I'm the one who must be going blind, I searched high and low for it.

Thanks a lot to both my kind helpers.
