Re: modern cursors

I switched to Breeze Snow, it looks better rendered, the shadows and outlines are much nicer. I found a numix cursor theme but that is also clearly based on Breeze and has an odd progress indicator that doesn't really fit numix at all.

Re: main menu cinnamon

Sounds like a feature request is necessary then. It seems odd that you can change the icon sizes but not the font in the menu.

Re: Modeprobe: module dm-raid45 not found in modules.dep

If you do not use RAID, you can uninstall the following (it's what I have done):

dmraid
libdmraid

initramfs will be regenerated after doing this. The warning will be gone next time you reboot.

Re: Kernel Signature

Well given secureboot is about as effective as a chocolate fireguard you may as well disable it again.

https://www.debian.org/security/2020-GR ... ecureBoot/

You can add a MOK for Debian kernels but it's really not worth the hassle.

Re: Replace Laptop every x years?

Since laptops have a limited lifespan and hard drives can go bad without warning (correct me if I'm wrong), does anyone just replace laptops every x years? What would x be? Or do you wait for errors to start occurring? No, laptops don't have a limited lifespan. The limit is more to do with whether ...

Re: Till when can I use LMDE 4?

Actually you can safely use LMDE4 for as long as Buster is supported upstream by the LTS team. Okay, so you may not get package updates for Mint specifics but the stability and security updates from Debian would continue flowing through. So with that in mind at least 5 years. It depends if you have ...

It seems to be tied to the Font Settings for the entire desktop, there's no apparent font option in the Configure dialog for the menu itself. So System Settings>Font Selection.

Re: What distro would you use for your main daily driver other than Mint?

I'm going to use bad language - Windows 8.1 is a decent operating system for daily usage too. It may sound daft but it works perfectly well and does not have all the nonsense that comes with W10. It's basically Windows LTS since there are no more feature updates for it, only security now. So yeah, L...

Re: Smartphone dumb and don't care to learn (AUDIO)

I talked to my neighbour where we used to live who was cutting the same hedges every 7 days, it worked out. He asked why I found it a nuisance and I told him because at the time I was going through chemo and needed to rest. I think it was the novelty of having a new toy rather than OCD driving him t...

For the last time fixed orbit , they are therefore visible at the same time each day in the same position. So yes if you are tracking something moving slower behind them they will appear to drift through. It depends which is moving faster, an object being observed and tracked with a telescope can dr...

Re: Standard keyboards are poor quality these days

As a Birthday treat I've chosen a Corsair K70 Rapidfire for my gaming rig which is reduced to £79.98 because there's a new replacement model out. It's backlit red only, not RGB which suits me fine. I don't find that as jarring as the blue on my worn membrane 'mechanical feel' gaming keyboard and do ...

I am not sure what is the "problem facing astronomers" that you mention. I'm not sure what problem he means, but there is definitely a problem when there is a significant risk that any particular research photo of the night sky is contaminated by the passage of a satellite, however faint it might b...

Read the comments below the article I linked to as well, I'm not imagining or misinterpreting anything, you can and clearly need to learn the world of astronomy is moving beyond the realms of your current knowledge levels too. There are satellites in fixed orbit visible in the night sky where I live...

Ouch! Been there too Dark Owl. Where we used to live in the middle of suburbia was too far from the exchange and cabinets because of the cabling route. Now we live somewhere rural, we are near enough to an broadband cabinet to get a current connection of 32.297Mbps downstream, 9.999 upstream on BT I...

Buy a matched kit, sell the old module(s) on eBay if you want to recover some of the cost. Also, consider Crucial kits, you can use the tool on their website to select the right RAM kit for your notebook. Crucial are a Micron brand.

Re: filesystem corruption AGAIN

As it worked fine before it could be the start of HDD failure, smartmontools will tell you more. It doesn't matter how old the drive concerned is, sometimes you can get a lemon from any HDD manufacturer. Windows cannot check partitions created with Linux file systems, so of course it would not see a...

Again, I know what I have observed at night, you do not need a powerful telescope to see geosynch satellites at all and they can be seen with the naked eye at certain times of the year too.
