Re: Will mint stop using gnome 2.32 in next release?

Hmmm... actually I'd like to see Gnome 3 in the next version of Linux Mint. It was probably a wise decision to delay it for one release (Mint 11), but I believe the time has come.

Re: Skype fonts unreadable on LM10 LXDE

Hi I encountered the same problem in LyX, which is also a QT application and solved it the following way: (1) install qtconfig (sudo apt-get install qtconfig) (2) run it (qtconfig &) (3) select "Tune Palette ...", then "Text" (under "Central Color Rules") and select an appropriate colour (anything b...

Re: Small Fonts Chaos

Hm... but it's different on my laptop (running Xubuntu 10.04). I'm running LyX there, too, and the menu has a reasonable font size. Could it be that some font package for LyX is missing? And if yes, how can I find out, which one it is? EDIT: Sorry, all clear. Simply restarting the computer somehow s...

Small Fonts Chaos

Hello, it seems that the advice given in the release notes doesn't really work for me. In the default settings, dpi-value is already set to 96 (not automatic). That results in a nice font size for Firefox and most default applications, but fonts are extremely small e.g. in Skype and LyX. When I incr...

Undo updates

Hi!

Is there a way to undo single update in case you think they spoiled something?

Re: Linux Mint 9 Xfce released!

First of all: Congrats to merlwiz, clem and everyone who contributed to this one. It's really a great release! I installed it at home and it runs perfectly so far.
Very smooth and lightning fast boot. :-)

Which (inexpensive) printers work _fully_ with Linux Mint 9?

Hello! Anyone has experience with Canon PIXMA iP 3600 or iP 2700 running under Linux? I plan to buy one of these, but I would like to know if it works flawlessly under Linux Mint 9 before I buy it. My old printer an Epson Stylus C92, which conked out some days ago, used to work in principle... but a...

To me, this sounds like a problem with "replay gain". Maybe you should try turning it either of or on.

Re: What's the best way to try XFCE?

Hm... if you don't like the mintMenu (something I can't understand because I love the mintMenu), then why don't you just remove it from GNOME? Just right-click on the menu, then choose "remove from panel". Then click on an empty space in the panel, choose "add to panel" and select the standard GNOME...

Re: Linux Mint Studio

Hi again! In the meantime I have gained some experience and I must confess, I'm not particularly convinced of Ubuntu Studio as a distribution. :-( Let me collect the reasons: The distribution is not available as a live CD/DVD, but only with the "alternate installer", so it was not possible to test i...

My favourites so far:

2. "Linux is now easy." by opendaily
3. "Enjoy your freedom." by neo21

Re: Improve your image

The suggested logo looks not bad to me, although I still like the official one as well.
The slogans.... well... honestly.... no. The old one ("from freedom came elegance") is still much catchier, more original, more fitting.

With the risk of the incuring the wrath of all lightweight purists... would be great if this mintMenu would be included by default in Mint9Xfce! :-)

Re: LinuxMint verschlanken

Z.B. "mintwelco...

Re: Broken Notifications

I think I found the solution: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Grafikkarten/ATI/radeon under "Grafikfehler mit alten ATI karten". (im sorry, it's in german, but maybe you can apply google translator or something if you don't understand) Of course, with xfce running we have to stop and start "xdm" instead ...

Re: What is the best available media player on Linux Mint 9?

Well, the best suited is always the one, that plays the media file properly. :) Unfortunately, I haven't found one for all yet. mplayer works very well on HD .mkv files because of its vdpau support, but fails on some dvd's. Totem however could play these dvd's, but fails on the HD videos. For music,...

Hi vincent, and thank you for your quick reply! Probably you're right, and the most reasonable way would be to stick with what works for me until the new version is out. However, I would like to try things out and googling for "xfce mint repository" gave me this link: http://packages.linuxmint.com/l...

"Sidegrading" to XFCE CE

Hi, I'm using Helena main edition, and I really like it. However, it could be a little bit faster on my computer, and so I decided to try the XFCE desktop. This is nice and speeds up the system quite a bit, but the standard fonts/theme etc. look a bit ugly, and some things such as the settings menu ...
