Also the decompression error is from them recently switching from gzip to lz. Don't worry about it. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1835660 I'll leave this thread now. You seem to have it all under control. Good luck helping the poster. That's the most helpful thing I've seen y...

Re: BIOS Error Bug while booting.

Then the original statement that the iGPU was disabled is incorrect You need to take two aspirin and have a lie down. Nobody but you mentioned iGPU. You're imagining things. Seek help. He clearly states " Linux Mint disabled my Video Graphics (Intel Haswell-ULT / Intel HD 4400 Graphics) card ....

Re: ACPI error message while booting

This is solved. Has it? You have solved your video frame tearing problem? You have Optimus PRIME drivers installed? Have set Nvidia DRM Kernel Mode Setting? Have enabled Nvidia Composition Pipeline? Set Layer acceleration if you use Firefox? Please disregard if you don't have Nvidia. Also was it th...

Re: BIOS Error Bug while booting.

I'm using HP-15-AC650TU Notebook (It's a little old and like a toaster). I have also updated my BIOS to latest version F.30. After the BIOS update I started to get this BIOS error message while booting Linux Mint. There was random shutdown problems too. I took my notebook to the HP technician and t...

Re: Simple ZFS on ROOT Installation

To add encryption: Open a terminal and edit “/usr/share/ubiquity/zsys-setup”: Search for “zpool create”, and make sure you have found the create command that has “rpool” on the last line. Before the “zpool create” insert: echo MYPASSWORD | Before the last line of the command insert these lines: -O r...

Re: Back up in Cinamon

You might find something to your liking here, I've used a couple of them. https://www.ubuntupit.com/free-open-source-backup-software-for-linux/ Thank you. I looked at all of them. One was interesting for me(simple) but 10 years old. I just did timeshift. I had to add root privileged and log in as r...

Re: ZFS and Linux Mint 20

I know that this is a little early and I'm looking forward to the release of Mint 19.3 Just read an article about Ubuntu 19.10 https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/11/ubuntu-19-10-quite-simply-the-best-ubuntu-canonical-has-ever-released/ It notes that "The Ubuntu 19.10 installer includes an op...

Re: APT search output format

Ya so if anyone cares, I came back to leave this info for anyone who, like me, gets weird wrappers and extensions that they didn't ask for shoved down their throat. And mint complains about snapd being installed without permission lmfao. /usr/local/bin/apt is a wrapper and was using aptitude for sea...

Re: APT search output format

If you are adverse to Mint's apt wrapper on main edition Mint just do this and log off and back on. Will effectively ignore it for that user. mkdir -p ~/.local/bin; ln -s /usr/bin/apt ~/.local/bin I like it - apt content <some-package> is so so much easier to remember than dpkg -L <some-package> et...

Re: APT search output format

Awesome, thank you. I used apt-file to see what package it comes in, so I could uninstall it. It's part of "mintsystem" package lol. Why would they do this, their apt extension doesn't even support the "info" command. Pretty useless if you ask me. As far as I can see, apt info w...

Re: APT search output format

apt search , as typed in, calls a Mint extension which in effect calls apt list --verbose . So apt list --verbose xrdp will do the trick for you. Alternatively, you could bypass the Mint extensions by calling /usr/bin/apt search xrdp (the Mint extensions are in the default /usr/local/bin/apt direct...

Re: Back up in Cinamon

I believe you are actually the one spreading misinformation due to your lack of understanding of the underlying mechanisms that Timeshift uses. You can believe the moon is made of mouldy green cheese for all I care. I prefer to take the author's view over that of the unchecked opinion of random dud...

Re: Back up in Cinamon

I use Timeshift to make backups of the system. And Cronopete for backups of /home. Timeshift is not a backup program. It is a system snapshot application, similar to Windows system restore. Please stop spreading that falsehood. Timeshift absolutely does do backups. They call it snapshot, but if you...
