Re: Chromium calls home

I should add, I've copied/pasted the directions for installing in ubuntu 14 and it doesn't download and installation can't find it. Since it is supported by redhat and several other reputable organizations, I really want to try it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. REK

Type in your subject into google and you will have pages explaining the reason. The Ubuntu explanation is quite good.

Re: LinuxMint10 juliet

I run Mint 11 because Zattoo won't connect with the latter versions. Yesterday, I installed 11 on a dual boot box and there were problems which I solved by booting up the recovery twice to repair. The recovery told me I had a broken pkg to remove, which I did with the terminal. I used the pkg manager...

Re: Linux Mint not playing well with my new computer

I just built a new box and being a muddler and not a hacker, I probed the net for information before proceeding. The best information I found was in "forums.lenovo.com" the title was "configuring Linux to run on UEFI based systems where grub fails to install". There are several posts I found Illumin...

Re: problems installing nvidia gt520 and drivers

Have a similar HP box and wanted to use the onboard vga output for Svideo analog, never got it working. Contacted HP and was informed I could use either but not both at the same time. I ended up using an adapter on one of the card"s outputs and didn't bother with the onboard outputs thereafter. REK

Re: need advice on new rig

The Mint 12 reference is only incidental to my questions sorry for not being more precise.Googling has provided information that since Ubuntu 10.04 , the PAE enabled kernel is automatically present and can be installed to increase the available RAM up to 32gigs on 32 bit systems. For my cited use th...

I never could get the 32 bit working properly on the 64 bit drive with my limited ability,so I just made another 32 bit mint installation on the drive. I use it the majority of the time and I can't tell any difference anyway.-rek

mint 10 - won't turn off

Reinstalled mint 10 32 bit yesterday, when I shut down it continuously restarts. This occurs in hibernate, suspend, or shut down. The only way to shut down is to pull the plug. I don't want to reinstall since I spent a day getting 2 necessary programs to work. This is a new box that worked fine before...
