Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

... then do the install of KDE onto Mint XFCE. +1 And may I add... it works very nicely! My only issue was with the kubuntu backports ppa; because Mint was 16.04 I was stuck with Xenial versions and it took a lot of effort to install 17.10 versions... Eventually I settled on using a 17.10 mini iso ...

Re: KDE Panel

Not sure about your question... however if you really don't want to see any task manager icons then: > simply remove that panel task app and rely on your Alt+Tab method (or) > pin windows instead (or) > use the Window List instead of the task manager (or) if I read your ask, if you want an active wi...

What's the timeline for this?
from the Mint Blog
In continuation with what’s been done in the past, Linux Mint 18.3 will feature a KDE edition, but it will be the last release to do so.

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

OK... ever since 18.2 I moved over to KDE Neon. Primarily I felt--call me psychic--that the writing was on the wall for KDE . But with all the attention on Cinnamon and Mate, I wanted to know I was supported by our dev team. From early Cassandra days I saw and experienced that. But this announcement...

Re: changing xed text wrap state [Solved]

Thanks @deepakdeshp! I was familiar with mousepad and leafpad (from previous versions) I was hoping that xed wouldn't be the same as gedit in this regard But it is what it is... so I'll continue on with mousepad as default Leafpad is the lightest but there are one or two features with mousepad that ...

changing xed text wrap state [Solved]

So how does one search for xed specifically? It's ignored! Information The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: xed. You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 4 characters However my real question relating to ...

Ahh yes... that's right
Sorry, this is my first rodeo with Cinnamon
I forgot that I also needed to unhide system tray icons in the applet
Also - that "enable support for indicators" is on by default on a fresh install
Thanks

System Tray Indicators not indicating

Given that my system... Kernel: 4.4.0-28-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: Cinnamon 3.0.6 Distro: Linux Mint 18 Sarah and that "Enable support for indicators" is ON and that my music player (DeadBeef) has a system tray enabled why would that player icon NOT display? is there some other setting that n...

Re: adding another player to Sound Setting

@rene Yeah I had seen that deadbeef was listed as a supported player on Cinnamon 3.0.5 but it doesn't show up on the sound app (hence the post question) It would seem then that the mpris plugin hasn't been compiled yet I thought using a desklet might be a workaround but there's only one, Soundbox, a...

Umm... that's not true--at least with the few players I tried--otherwise I wouldn't have had to ask...
So I'm more inclined to concede with @Cosmo's explanation

adding another player to Sound Setting

While Banshee is the player that I see in the Sound/Volume app...
How do I go about adding whatever other music player I've installed, there as well?
I can't seem to find it via dconf (where I would've made a whitelist change when I used Xfce)
Thanks!

Hi from Zoolooland

Nice to be back in the Mint space... My last few distros have been with Xubuntu and while that worked out for me, on a whim I decided to look at the XFCE offering from Mint and was reading the post on the up-coming 18 version. So I waited a few days and when I saw the Cinnamon Beta avialable, I went...

Hi Tacoz ! You have returned to Rebecca and provide no details ( computer, RAM, processor,...), so no answers. @JOPETA Thank you for the input! I assumed that in explaining the successful stuff... that details were superfluous but just to clarify... I check the MD5SUM as a matter of course - so the...

Re: XFCE Sound Settings config is where?

My bad... I didn't realise/know that Xfce also used the DConf db for storing desktop settings I used the gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.sound to blacklist what I didn't want and then added my player app to the whitelist For those who want a 'simpler' solution, install dconf-tools and then run...

I see that VLC and Banshee are listed in the volume indicator
How do I remove or add items to that "sound settings menu" (if that is what its called)?
Thanks
