Re: What's the future of Linux Mint?

What is told in the video? Can you summarize? I can. Here are his points... Linux Sucks 2021 The End of Linux is Nigh This is not an inflammatory statement. Who am I to make such a preposterous claim? - Years in Linux Marketing. - Years in Linux development. - Years in Linux/Tech journalism. - Year...

Re: Some of you use Snapd?

I have an even worse scenario for Ubuntu though, an scenario where it actually dies in the desktop the way we know it and only focuses their work for IoT, servers and support. The future of Ubuntu is pretty shady tbh, but I like to think about different scenenarios. I'm confident that Ubuntu on the...

Name everyone you know who can read source code.
Most of them I know virtually as they work for the kernel maintainability. What's your point? That everything should go proprietary then?

... Re: Moving away from Google,Microsoft Basically you don't, unless you move to BSD, and even then you're still not 100% free of them. Google and Microsoft are the two biggest contributors to GNU/Linux, period. A very large proportion of your GNU/Linux system is Google and Microsoft. Some people ...

Specially YouTube, i want to use it, but for that i need google email, so i cant really delete it :P There is a huge misconception around all of this among users... Re: Google intents to cripple Chromium

Google is doing a good thing for the open source community, less Google APIs = More privacy, less security holes, less proprietary stuff.

It's far from being an Ungoogled Chromium, but still, better than nothing...

I haven't seen any criticism about the snap model
I have several to add, I'll try to contact him through Telegram.

Re: Some of you use Snapd?

The Ubuntu Devs are currently experimenting with an entire snap desktop built around Ubuntu Core That would be enough to send my straight to Debian. :? Hopefully it'll still remain an option . As I thought, I think Ubuntu will become something like Fedora Silverblue, but only with snaps. So, if Lin...

Re: What's the future of Linux Mint?

Given the challenges the Linux community is facing, as neatly summarized here: https://odysee.com/@Lunduke:e/LinuxSucks2021:1 - what's the expected evolution path of Linux Mint? Will it be around at all 10 years from now? Is it going to thrive or to slowly disintegrate into nothingness? I haven't s...

Disabling Firefox title bar to save space in the screen

What about disabling Firefox title bar to save space especially now Mint panel is larger because it uses a grouped list of applications per icon instead of an ungrouped window list [aka traditional] like it used to be in the past. Grouped list [aka Modern layout](now larger, bigger) https://i.imgur....

What about moving the Desktop Colors and Panel Layout to the System Settings?

I was thinking about this during the whole week, why not? These settings could've been in the system settings, maybe somewhere inside Themes subcategory. I don't think it's good to use the Welcome Screen as the only way for changing the panel layout or desktop colors. Shouldn't it be part of the sys...

Re: Opinions on Linux Distros i've tested.

Zorin is a good distro, but I wish it updated more frequently, they're still based on dated Ubuntu 18.04. When 20.04 gets older and 22.04 gets closer to be released then they will make a version based off 20.04 /just kidding  Dude, they're slow as hell. I think I'm actually getting the feeling ...

Re: Some programs fro package

About Chromium, Mint probably will package it like Pop!_OS did, read this article . Different from Ubuntu, Mint team tends to listen to their user base. That's why I feel more comfortable with Linux Mint than these big distros with commercial/corporate feeling. I agree about Mailsprint and OnlyOffic...

Re: LMDE main focus?

LMDE4 is indeed based on Buster, not Sid. Regardless, backports are enabled by default for LMDE4, so outdated drivers etc. are not really an issue: My games run fine with PlayOnLinux or Steam It cannot be comparable to Ubuntu, Pop!_OS or Manjaro. It doesn't matter if you can get a recent driver if ...

Why are NVIDIA Prime, Warpinator and Flatpak update enabled by default?

I'm not even using a hybrid graphics laptop, so why enabling NVIDIA Prime by default? I saw people with AMD having it enabled on their machines! It makes boot slow, decreases performance and adds more bloat to the services. I thought when the installer detected I was on a desktop computer they would...

Re: using chromium in mint 20

You can use Google Chrome instead,
If you prefer the Chromium because of it being open source, remember it still leaks data to Google, so the best approach would be using Ungoogled Chromium
