Re: Two computers now will not boot at all after installing Mint 20

Welcome to the forum, tavis01 . Sorry to hear of your issues, but a deep breath, a new day, and some forum help will hopefully get you back computing again. If one is going to dual boot (leave Windows 10 intact and add Mint), one needs to boot both the same way. Since Windows was most likely install...

Re: Need advice on an AMD CPU

Now for the CPU, It's going to be an AMD and the one I like is the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 4-Core Unlocked Desktop Processor. I found this page AMD Ryzen™ 3 3200G with Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics and when I clicked the 'Drivers & Support' tab at the top, the new page only shows Windows drivers. In the past I...

Re: PC wasn't excepting Mouse or Keyboard input (had to Reset)

There are settings for the display under Screensaver and also under Power Settings. I'm not sure what you mean by "the reset button". What were you resetting? Can you please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrz Enclose the results between [ⅽode]...

Re: Mint 20 Dual monitor 2nd screen areas appearing as desktop backround

I've managed to get Nvidia 450.66 on the system and it does seem to have got me past the Nvidia driver loading on boot issue although I need to give it a few days to soak test to be sure. It appears to be a bit of a "codge" as according to the driver manager I'm running 440.100 but going by the out...

thank you all guys in this forum! :-) I have resolved this problem after updating mesa to 20.1.8 version! :D :D Glad it is working for you. If you would edit the title of your first post in this thread and add [SOLVED] that would let others with a similar issue know this might a good thread for the...

Re: xrandr reports wrong resolution for second monitor

Someone in another thread was having issues with a second monitor (desktop setup) not showing the full resolution with their Nvidia card and changing the cable to hook to a different port on the monitor solved it. You do have a very new laptop, so it's possible the port drivers aren't yet available ...

Re: Unexpected Shutdowns

Oh, I thought that the high and crit values indicated how high the temps can go with no problems. Good to know they should be under 50°C. How high they can go for short periods of time is different from how high you would want them to be on a sustained basis. The 50C number I mentioned is a sustain...

Re: Random freezes with Thinkpad USB-C dock

The USB device I marked in orange is listed in the dmesg, so your network connection may be related to this. Re: Random freezes with Thinkpad USB-C dock

This is still showing as tainted. What is a tainted kernel in Linux? [15830.429517] Tainted: G OE 5.4.45-050445-generic #202006070831 Is there possibly something in your network connection at work that might be causing this? I suppose you could take your home dock to work and use the "home" dock the...

Re: Random freezes with Thinkpad USB-C dock

Your kernel is listed as Kernel: 5.4.45-050445-generic which is odd numbering and suggests this could be kernel related. I would expect your kernel to be listed as 5.4.0-45-generic because 5.4 is an LTS kernel (LTS for Mint 20 but also available for those using LM19). Then in dmesg I see this more t...

Re: Keyboard, trackpad, and usb mouse no longer working

Do you have your installation media to be able to boot to a live-session of Mint? That would at least give you the ability to get it and look at the files on your hard drive. And if you have a Timeshift snapshot you could use it to revert back to when your laptop was working. I have no experience wi...

Re: Screen error, Mint not responding, needs hard reboot

I've been using my laptop without the second monitor plugged in the last week and a half, and didn't get any image freeze. Starting to think it could be something related to graphics configuration/HW. Using just my laptop... so far so good. The photos in your initial post were of laptop screens, so...

Re: Kernel update to 5.4.0-47 fails on HP, renders the machine unbootable

I decided to write because I believe it has something to do with the motherboards used by HP, or some other reason around the brand and hardware components that were used (the user in the forum mentioned above had the same problem with this kernel version in a HP laptop). I have an HP laptop and di...

Re: How to downgrade NVidia packages after a recent upgrade?

Anyway, the solution that worked for me was cable-related. I replaced my HDMI-HDMI cable with a HDMI-DVI one (still using the HDMI port of the graphic card but the DVI port of the monitor), and now both monitors are recognised correctly and the resolution is as expected. I've seen many threads wher...

So what can we deduce from the above output ? It looks like to me that some changes were made, so I would assume things were not optimal before you ran it. I also wanted to point out your computer seems to be missing an audio driver ( red ). If you are noticing any issues, you might want to search the forum on that and/or create a thread in that section of the forum. Audio: Device-1: AMD Raven/Raven2/Fenghuang HDMI/DP Audio vendor: Lenovo driver: snd_h...

Re: Linuxmint is stuttering on the ryzen r5 3550h, especially when dragging the window

I'm a sis. :) And I have more knowledge about Nvidia than AMD, but maybe I can provide a little help. If I understood the information in this thread AMD Boot Issues [Solved] correctly, the newer kernels have newer mesa versions which may be why the newer kernel seemed to work better for you. Re: LM 20 Mate, AMD- cannot set screen options - drivers to blame?

Welcome to the forum, tomassi10 . The driver issue is one of your hardware being very new and the LTS kernel in Mint 20 not yet having the device driver (below in red ) for the AMD Renoir and the default renderer (in blue ) being used. You will need a newer kernel in order to get that device driver ...
