Re: So pretty much all changed over to Linux Mint, but, needs...

Here in Holland the tax-office uses a secure (?) website where you can log-in and do your taxes, Nowadays most of the items are filled out already by them since they know it all already. No need for a program. Would be impossible since the rules here chance every year, you would need a new program e...

Re: So pretty much all changed over to Linux Mint, but, needs...

So I've moved all three computers to Linux Mint KDE 18.1 now, two dual boot but I may change that to remove Windows in the future. Pretty much all I want and need to do can be done without Windows, but, one thing comes to mind and it worries me: I use Turbo Tax. What do I do to do taxes easily like...

Re: Photo Stitcher (Panorama)

Try Hug-in. Use it every day lately cause i'm busy with the holiday pictures of last year. Great program.

Oops, didn't read your entire post. As I wrote I do use Hug-in and it works fantastic, I never have problems with it unless the pictures are not suitable to be joined.

I understand what you're saying but that doesn't faze me a bit. Do you? When I just read it again just now I thought I should have written it a bit different. What I meant with my statement is not that it originated in the past, but it looks like something form the past. ... Yes, I got that just fi...

Re: Is it just me or is kdenlive GUI super flaky in Mint 18?

The program is practically unusable. Lot of controls don't show up properly/are overlapped by other controls. Tool tips are white text on top of yellow, overall, it's a mess. Is there a way to permanently fix this? I played with settings within kdenlive and got it going but it does not work long te...

Re: What is the best backup utility for a desktop machine?

ReDo Backup and Recover. Install it to a CD and boot from it. Can make backups of partitions but also complete drives in matter of minutes. I use for making backups of my OS on a NAS over the network. Works great.

Re: What other distros have you played with recently?

To be honest I find XFCE something from the past. Plasma 5 is sparkling, it is shining, the programs delivered with it work great. Take for example Dolphin the file-manager. Superior to all others. You can configure it just the way you want it, it has double panels which make it very easy to move or...

Re: What other distros have you played with recently?

My partitions: 30 GB Arch (the boot is here) 30 GB Debian 30 GB Manjaro 400 GB data 10 GB swap. I guess a backup OS will never hurt anyone. :) Note: during Manjaro install, I chose manual partitioning as always. True, but on the other hand I have a full backup of my Manjaro setup and place it back ...

The link wants me to sign in with Google. Privacy much? I read here on this forum several messages from people who believe only Google is the spy who wants your data. Well let me tell you, the alternatives people here write about are just as bad, even worse, because they don't tell you they do it. ...

I hit a problem installing multi-boot of Manjaro 17.0 Xfce along side Linux Mint Mate 18.1 - a Grub incompatibility problem between Mint and Manjaro that I think is fairly well known now on the Manjaro forum... https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=228974&start=40#p1289548 True....

Re: Screen Tearing.... when will it be solved?

By default the latest Mint has the 4.4 kernel. Manjaro is a rolling distro and you may have already the 4.9 Linux Kernel. This may explain why your hardware is working better in Manjaro compared to Linux Mint/Ubuntu. I use Manjaro for 6 months now and used different kernels. When I use the patch I ...

Re: Weird "jello" effect when scrolling web pages, LM + Mate

OK, sure, but now scrolling is even worse. Not smooth at all (duh...). ... and I think some remnants of that effect are still there. Of course it is hard to tell since scrolling now looks bad anyway. Any idea why Ubuntu/Unity works flawlessly on the same setup? Something vastly improved in Unity as...

Re: LM 18.1 network path problems?

Is it so important to have the scanned documents in a particular folder? Does the machine scan at all? For me that would be more important. You can't find a scanner setting somewhere which says documents are placed here or there? I don't have an HP but use an Epson printer/scanner and my docs are pl...

Re: Weird "jello" effect when scrolling web pages, LM + Mate

Open Chrome (or Firefox) settings and switch off smooth scrolling. In Chrome you type: about:flags in the addressbar. When the page has loaded scroll down a bit till you see the item smooth scrolling. Here it is item 22 in the long list. I expect Firefox to have something similar but I don't use tha...

Re: Screen Tearing.... when will it be solved?

I use an Asus-X541UV PC. All said. Where did you say that? I don't see it in your first post. I looked it up and saw that it uses an Nvidia 920M GPU. Which Nvidia driver do you use? Did you also install the Nvidia-settings program? In there, at least with the latest drivers you can set an option wh...
