Re: which smartphone works well with linux

Define "Works well"? my Note 10 can be accessed by Mint for transferring files over standard USB, I mainly just use this for backing up my photo's to the NAS (and from there to cloud storage backup) , Mint desktop being the middle man that handles the transfer. but I sometimes also put med...

Re: Copying a file over 2gb with Nemo

I have had issues with non native file systems like NTFS drives under Nemo, my "fix" was to just move everything to EXT4, Nemo has no problems for me moving very large files on native file systems, local or network. You could try formatting the thumb drive as ext4 instead of the typical fa...

Re: What does 'Linux Community' mean?

My understanding, be it right or wrong. You have the commercial model, paid developers white software, test it (hopefully well) and then sell it to consumers. the income pays the developers wages (hopefully) and maybe some profit. there is little opportunity for feedback from the consumer to the dev...

I am currently typing on a laptop that is over 10 years old Linux Mint 20 cinnamon installed perfectly right out of the box. no extra anything needed at all, everything just works. Re: Chromium 85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) for Linux Mint (64-bit)

chrome's current stable channel is .111 Ok, that brings a conundrum for Mint users in this current window of time, take Chrome and all its attendant privacy problematic hooks into Google or mint version of Chromium .75 with a security flaw (I think) but with less privacy problems with google. Pick ...

That version discrepancy is a concern and I'll hold off deleting Google Chrome until Mint can deliver timely updates for Chromium when the build process is automated.
Has chrome for Linux updated past .111 ?

Re: Netflix, Chromecast, Hulu, Vudu, etc

We have one Amazon fire stick, Roku, and chrome-cast plus another Roku built into a "smart TV" (1984 dystopia comes to life). my favourite is the Roku built into the TV, it seams to be the snappiest and most responsive, the seperate Roku (years old now) has a delay and sometimes locks up, ...

Re: Keyboards

My 20 year old MS natural recently died, I am not happy the traces in the membranes corroded. I probably spilled something in it as some point, I don't like the newer Natural ones, the keys are squishy. but that is probably what I will do as I do like the natural layout. Currently using an old AT ke...

Re: Why is the website so fugly?

I had read a lot of reviews and distro comparisons before coming to Linux Mint, it was my third distro hop in as many weeks when I started with Linux (this round) when I came to the page I was looking for only 2 things. 1. download button. 2. installation documentation. Website provided both with li...

Seems new Version 86.0.4240.75 (Official Build) for Linux Mint (64-bit) fixed the icon issue! I updated this morning on my machine, icon issue is fixed for me also. What I don't know is weather 86.0.4240.75 includes the security update brought to our attention by Sleeper12 above, the article calls ...

it also isn't great it's falling behind on official version updates.
if you think that is bad I was running the Debian repository version before this one, and it was on version 83, Debian seams allergic to fresh software.

I have been using it for the better part of a month and so far the icon issue is all I know of or have heard about, Version 85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) for Linux Mint (64-bit) has been perfectly stable. Security ...

Re: [SOLVED] Opinion... VPN?

VPN's have valid uses. but their effectiveness is limited, they are only one tool of many and may not be needed for your use case. there is not much about a VPN that will stop a hacker, you are still connected to the internet, just in a different more anonymous spot. if they get you to download some...

Yes, I don't know how deep into Chromium they will be getting, My assumption is that the mint team will only be handling bugs in the Mint p...

The icon problem will be fixed in the next release.

Makes me happy to know the that the developers are responsive to every day users, and that even minor issues will be addressed. :)
