Re: DPKG - Map package sources to installed packages
Hi, This might seem a too simple question but I cannot find an easy solution for this... If I have a package source defined in Synaptic, how can I see what packages are installed from it? I'm trying to clean up some package sources and then it's interesting to see what packages are installed from w...

Re: Setting up a LAN?
One solution is to install Openssh-server on each computer. Note: If you're using a Firewall (maybe using gufw), then you'll need to add a rule to allow SSH. (Rules -> '+' -> type 'ssh' in 'Application Filter' -> Add) If the computers are both in the same LAN (same subnet), you should also be able t...

Re: What's the hate around snap?
..., it seems to me that the Linux Mint community really doesn't like snap. I've looked around a bit, but I can't seem to understand exactly why. ... I tried snap once for Thunderbird. Problems: Difficulty in performing the mods I normally make to the config files and profiles. Difficulty in using ...

Re: Slow FTP transfer on all clients [mint cinamon]
Hi WhyCheese, I just tried some ftp transfers, and I get decent performance. But, I've used different methods than you've used. And I was using WiFi for these tests, which typically is much slower than a gigabit LAN. The first test was ftp with Firefox . The "File > Connect To Server..." f...

Re: Keyboard shortcuts...
My Mate 20.1 can open apps with keyboard shortcuts (with or without a window open) as expected, and as you have seen on other systems. You have a unique problem on your system. Please correct if any of these are wrong: - keyboard shortcuts don't work unless a window is open - your keyboard configura...

Re: how to use gdb and coredumpctl to identify problems with frequently crashing applications
If I understand the situation correctly, a number of different applications are causing core dumps, it takes some time (a couple of hours) before the core dumps happen, and the applications that typically cause the core dumps are memory intensive (increasing memory usage with time). The 1st core dum...

But so far..so good with the Qredshit applet for a good while now for me-- Very nice! Thanks! :D -- I'm happy it's working for you. I"m curious though wondering if I'm confused on something. Did you do both the "manual" method I mentioned most recently AND the Qredshift applet? I ask...

Re: Redshift [SOLVED]
But so far..so good with the Qredshit applet for a good while now for me-- Just tried QRedshift based on your recommendation. After exiting Redshift-gtk from the panel, I did this: rm ~/.config/redshift.conf apt remove redshift-gtk Next I ran Applets to download QRedshfit, and finally Panel Setting...

Re: how to use gdb and coredumpctl to identify problems with frequently crashing applications
I think you might be better served to look at the logs to see if they give a clue as to what is causing the problems. Try this to look at reported errors: journalctl -b0 -p 0..3 Try this to look at reported errors (and cautions): journalctl -b0 -p 0..4 Your problem sounds very serious with the core ...

Re: Thunderbird limited
Some weeks ago, on Mint 20.1 Ulyssa the Thunderbird app changed (deteriorated) in two ways. Firstly all folder icons became blank, uncoloured. Secondly a new Write message page only allows for one each of main addressee, Cc and Bcc, a serious restriction. I tried an uninstall and reinstall Thunderb...

I have Linux Mint 20.1 (Cinnamon), and I am definitely just learning how to work within the Linux environment (like, only just found out about Ctrl/Shift+C/V for copying/pasting in the Terminal, just to give you an idea :D ), so the most basic guidelines will be required... When the keyboard layout seems wrong, run the following, and post the output: sudo debconf-show keyboard-configuration Then, try changing the keyboard configuration settings by running the following command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration And finally, run the following...

Re: Nemo - would like to get "send by email" context menu
Update: Good news! Tested the below file (both locally and from a server) with Nemo 4.8.6, Thunderbird 78.7.1 (64-bit) running on Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.1/Kernel 5.4.0-67 and in all cases, the sensitive attachment was not included. This is good news! <!-- mailto-tests.html --> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC...
