Re: Snaps in Linux Mint?

I saw this thread earlier. Perhaps related to your issue: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=336265 Thanks that does seem quite related. As long as Mint is still blocking snaps I guess we're good. This is kind of bizarre to me though that Mint relies on a snap library for other t...

[SOLVED] Snaps in Linux Mint?

I understand snaps are disabled by default in Linux Mint. However just recently an update came up that looks to me like a snap prerequisite. Can anyone explain why this is here or what it means? Based on what this says, there was an old version installed so this isn't a new package installation or a...

Frame rate limiter and how to reduce coil whine

Anyone know if there's a way to control frame rate or v-sync option for games that don't contain such settings in their menus? In Windows I was able to control it system wide or per game within Nvidia's control panel but I don't think they have a Linux app for that. Not sure if the coil whine is har...

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

I didn't use any appimage, only the Mint repo and the flatpak versions. I will follow up with that link though, thank you. 8)

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

Darn it. Well thanks for your dedication. Perhaps an Audacity bug report would be the best course of action. Perhaps it's something to do with my hardware that no one has encountered or accounted for yet.

Indeed. Just in case, let me see this output again:

Code: Select all

curl https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/raw/master/src/utils/pa-info?inline=false | bash | nc termbin.com 9999
Maybe there's something in there that'll give me a clue.

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

I think I mentioned this before but the first terminal line you gave me which fixed everything else is (or seems to be) what broke Audacity. Not sure if that is related or narrows anything down but I thought I'd mention that. Prior to that I did have to select an option other than default in the lis...

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

Yes, it's a thing in Linux with poorly written apps, and when apps are instructed to do this. Audacity doesn't do this by default, but does when we use hw:0,0 for example. The hw:0,0 is telling Audacity to use the hardware directly, thereby leaving said hardware unavailable to PulseAudio. I'm still...

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

Is this a thing in Linux? Could it be related? And if so, can it be disabled?

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

Got this WHILE doing a voice + screen recording in OBS. As you can see, neither OBS nor anything except pulse is using the mic. Audio device is set to default . So is Audacity trying to take exclusive control of the mic and the OS doesn't like it? It may be normal operating standards according to A...

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

I thought I had posted this earlier but I now don't see it on a quick scan of the thread: See if renaming the /home/YourUserName/.audacity-data folder while Audacity is not running has any impact on this. Maybe something got corrupted in there. Or uninstall Audacity AND remove that folder then inst...

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

I reinstalled OBS and did a short test stream on Youtube which went off without a hitch. I have no idea what, but it seems Audacity is just making some system calls that the OS doesn't know what to do with so it just shuts down the whole thing, much like the infamous BSOD on Windows (though not near...

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

Well, I'm all out of ideas as well. :( On a brighter note, my friend and I had a Discord voice chat the other day and he didn't report any problems hearing me. On the contrary he had to turn his sound back down since before when I used the mobile app, he could hardly hear me at all. Unless you have ...

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

So I did some more testing and it seems the squished audio occurs if I open Audacity and record, then close and immediately reopen it again. If I leave it closed and reopen it several minutes or more later, it begins recording normally again. What do you make of that?

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone detected but disabled

The only thing I can think of to look at is this: sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* Run that during squishy recordings. If there's any line that has something other than your username and pulseaudio on them, that could be the culprit. Both pulseaudio and audacity are using controlC0 . Could that be the issu...
