Google doesn't recognize Linux as a platform

Did anyone else blow a fuse today while watching Google I O 2012? They were addressing Google Docs/Drive and the VP said that they werre making it available on iPhone and iPad today and that it is now functional across ALL platforms. Showing a chart with virtually all platforms except Linux and Unix...

Can't keep touchpad turned off

I'm running a Pavillion dv7 and have linux mint 12 [32bit] installed in dual boot with another linux distribution. I have been a Mint user for a long time (4 I think) and I have always loved it and felt smug about having the best available. I have a problem that annoys me to death but wont drive me ...

Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12

Life is funny sometimes. I'm faced with just the opposite problem. Every time I boot I have to turn off the pad again - and didn't in Mint-11. You can type from the terminal synclient TouchpadOFF=1 to turn the pad on. Likewise you can download gpointing-device-settings select desktop, then periphera...

Re: release date for Mint 12

Good luck in trying to get even a hint when a release of Mint will be. We (tip of Texas LUG) learned the hard way. We put up $1400 for an install party and invited the local press in for the release of Mint 6. Talk about embarrassing! We tried building in six weeks after the final release of Ubuntu ...

Re: LMDE is not a beginners distro RUBISH, absolute piffle

well, I've been using linux since about 2001. I'm a user, not a super geek. with lmde I -am still a little hazy about how to properly update even though I have read how on the forums. No how to was included with the distro- if not for the forums I would not even be able to keep it up to date correc...

Missing option in install window 4 of 7

My friend called and asked about dual booting XP with Mint 9. I gave him a copy of the CD and the DVD of Mint 9. He called to let me know that the " () install side by side" option is missing on step 4 of 7. He brought the disks over here and the line is there. He is trying to install Linux in a dua...

Thanks RedWagon. These are things I should have done. I will have access to the laptop in 3 hours and will post the result soon thereafter.

application fails to launch

I have installed TeamViewer on several laptops and desktops running Mint (or Ubuntu). The problem case is on a Dell Inspiron 15n running Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T6600 (2.20GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) 250GB3 SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM) 3GB1 Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz and a clean install of Linux Mint ...

Re: ADSL

The ADSL POTS splitter is simply a series of coupled inductors and parallel capacitors forming a low pass filter that attenuates the higher frequency ADSL data and permits only the voice frequencies to reach the telephone. The series inductor shows high impedance to high freuqencies, so the ADSL sig...

worlds slowest repositories

I actually left Linux Mint for a couple of months because of the pitifully slow update speeds. I put Mint back on my system because several of my students are Mint users. After class today we had a discussion about update speeds and found that 100% of us were suffering the same painfully slow update...

wireless worked in 4.0 but not on 5.0 or 5.1

I have 6 HP laptops that have worked wonderfully on all things linux. Each had run for the duration of Linux Mint 4.0 without anyone having one second of trouble. We were hooked! HOWEVER when we upgraded to Linux Mint 5.0 and later 5.1 absolutely none of them could come up with a wireless connection...

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa - BETA 032 is out!

I downloaded the ISO within an hour of you making it available. I burned a CD and installed it as a clean install on my AMD64 machine and it is a beautiful thing to behold. A lot of attention to minutia as well as some great new applications. A great distribution made better! However, I spent all da...

Gnome Hearts will no play

I have successfully opened and run Hearts in Ubuntu, Fedora and Open SuSE but the application will not start in Linux Mint. I'm retired and frequently need some time playing hearts to get sleepy - but I feel like a moron using Virtual Box to launch Ubuntu so I can play. A little help for an old fell...

Can't you use the Program manager and simply mark the programs for uninstall? Works for me.

Celena is a thing of beauty!

What a fantastic distribution Mint has now become with the birthing of Celena. I'm sure that all of us have those hard cases that just aren't going to move to Linux no matter what it does. Well when MY problem arrived for espresso and settled in the overstuffed chair behind me, he immediately stood ...

Should update be installed as DEFAULT

From the release notes of Celena "The Update Manager and Update Notifier were removed from Celena so users would not perform un-educated upgrades. With more than 2 releases a year and many modules affected by upgrades, stability was preferred to security in Celena. No more pop-ups telling you a new ...

Thanks Shane! ttp://future-co.de/linuxmint/LinuxMint-3.1-BETA-017.iso is a great download. Sitting on the Mexico / US border and pulling the ISO as fast as my DSL can move! It started so quickly I thought I had the wrong site :-)

Now to go burn it and get back with comments.
