Re: Mint 10 and LMDE...WHY? Major difference?

LMDE is rolling release. You don't have to move from 8 -> 9 -> 10 -> x -> y but can just update packages from mintUpdate and your computer will have the latest of everything. Ubuntu will allow the user to switch between unity and GNOME at startup. As stated by a unity dev in a Reddit AMA You could s...

Re: LMDE 64 bit when is be date out december?

I'm pretty sure that like all mint releases, it will be released when it is ready. When it passes all the developer's quality checks and it deemed fit for use by all the testers.

Re: Just saying Hi and asking some really daft questions!

I would suggest you use Linux Mint: XFCE, LMDE or LXDE.

These are just more lightweight window managers than the default GNOME.

You can find them in the download section.

Re: Installing Google Chrome (Stable + Beta) at the same tim

Google Chrome has 4 release channels; stable, beta, dev and a bleeding-edge one. I used to use the stable build, but I have switched to the dev channel. To do that I uninstalled google-chrome from synaptic package manager. I then installed google-chrome dev channel by downloading the .deb from the c...

Re: What version Ubuntu/Kbuntu is Mint Isadora based on?

Initially in a gnome and 32 bit version only...but i am hoping it works out so well and becomes so popular with mint fans, that they go the full monty (gnome 32/64 bit and KDE 32/64 bit)...."unfortunately" they did such a fantastic job on their version of Kubuntu that they got me hooked on the MINT...

Re: Mint Debian

I also use arch which is rolling release. The only problem I could forsee is an upgrade of system software such as the kernel or xorg. For example, for xorg 1.8, HAL was removed and udev is used instead. Precautions were taken though and everything worked (udev as a dependancy etc). A kernel upgrade...

Re: I have 2GB RAM, Why does mint report ~1051

When it says 2GB, the actual formatted value can differ, my HDD is 500 GB but is actually 500.1 GB Uh, they're discussing RAM, not hard disks. 2GIG would normally show as roughly 2048MB. My post was to show the difference between advertised and actual amounts of a product, I used HDD because I actu...

You have to make sure the images you download are large enough to cover the screen without needing to be scaled. Look for pictures of sizes 1440x900 or larger (But with the same ratio between length:height)

Re: Point-releases for LinuxMint LTS-editions

Stability comes from not having up to date packages. 18 months between software updates except for bugs would be impossible due to ubuntu's schedule.

I believe Clem has a list of tests he performs on every ISO. I'm guessing he same is said for explorer.
I'm guessing the tests will be playing media, web browsing, all the mint tools, mint4win etc.

Re: nautilus elementary should be default in mint.

I would second this. I use nautilus elementary and it is far superior to nautilus.

I would also recommend GloobusPreview, it integrates fantastically with nautilus elementary.
