Re: [Solved] Can't Install Broadcom STA Driver in Mint 9 KDE
oI had the same problem. I tried the FWcutter instead and somehow it worked... Perhaps they got the buttons mixed up?uo

Re: Which Mint OS for max battery life?
I have found that KDE and Gnome give the best battery life as they take advantage of the processors ability to change their frequency on the fly. I get about 30 more minutes of battery life in KDE than in gnome (both x64). Wubi is a lot slower and I do not recommend it for your install. start > (rig...

Re: Occasional Boot Crashes
I have not encountered that problem myself. When you downloaded the mint KDE dvd, did you make sure the md5 sum was correct? Sometimes you can do a complete install with a "broken" download image. While the install will work, there can be some odd errors such as that. In addition, if you w...

Re: Is the repository of Mint-KDE different from the Gnome's
The repo's are all the same. Now, if you want to try out all the "spins" of mint, I suggest you do so in a live environment or with multiple installs. Having a lot of DE's will slow your install down because you will be running unnecessary dependencies.

Re: Mint KDE Sucks
I have a dell inspiron 1525, my battery life has improved in Mint 9 KDE. I think your problems lie within hardware incompatibilities. On my desktop, the only issue I have had is that my optical drive will only recognize DVD's that contain movies, unless they were in there upon system boot. This happ...

Re: KDE system theme and alternate IM client
Well, google video apparently works with linux (and it's not flashed based like in OSX and windoze). When I go to system settings, I don't see "workspace appearance" as a option. I tried typing it in the search bar as well. "appearance" is an option, but that's all. As for Kopete...

KDE system theme and alternate IM client
Okay, when I had linux mint 8, to change the system theme, all I had to do was right click on the screen (like in the middle) and select desktop options (or something similar to that line of thought), then, get new themes, install theme..presto! done. In Kmint9, I am having trouble finding the syste...

DrHu, that was a phenomenal post. Thank you so much. I wish there was a +rep button on this forum because you deserve it. You answered everything perfectly. Thanks again. To answer you question as to why, perhaps it's best if I present you an example and you tell me how it would be handled (all clie...

Re: The "Linux" Active Directory
Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. Are there roaming profiles for Linux Users though? EX: I have an ubuntu server that hosts all the user login info. When they login on a linux machine, their username / pass (perhaps home folder), is then accessed on the server? So is the a Linux equiva...

The "Linux" Active Directory
I am kinda new to the whole networking thing and I have a few questions. Windows has Active Directory which (from what I can tell) works in linux thanks to samba. Now, my question is, does linux have its own Network file/folder sharing method? Also, does Linux support roam user profiles? If so, how ...

Re: Linux Mint E17
MoonOS apparently is coming out with a new release (#4) sometime in September. The dev of it said he was waiting for a stable release of E17/had something else to do. Nevertheless, that makes me think that E17 might actually have a stable release coming out...that would be amazing. E17 has the poten...

Re: POSTED BUT NO HELP THERE TRYING HERE...
Check the md5sum of the iso you downloaded as well. If the image isn't right, your install can have error. Also, don't post in all caps, it's rude.

Any chance for seeing a 64 bit release?
Any chance of there being a 64 bit fluxbox release? I really like the FB editions of LM, but for my desktop, a 64 bit OS is the most appropriate for my system. I know the 32 bit is the main focus for the FB release, but almost every new computer on the market has a 64 bit compatible CPU and 4 gigs o...

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report
I am confused, why is there 32 bit only. I recall that the final say was 64 bit FTW!!! I was hoping to just install the RC and be done with it. I is sad again...

Re: Downloading attempts failed
well I restarted my comp and tried a different mirror...then they both seemed to work...so when I finally got everything install on my old computer, it seemed that it didn't want to detect my Nvidia card...This puzzles me as all of the other Mint distro's did...I sad.

Downloading attempts failed
Okay, first I tried to just get LM8 FB via http from a random mirror and it failed about 80% of the way through...
Then I decided to torrent...I have restarted and everything I can think of, even turning off my firewall, and I can't get further than like 83.5% ish.
What could be causing this error?

Re: Linux Mint E17
While I agree that Elive looks good, there are a number of things that distro does wrong...most of them in the MORAL department such as hiding their $15 charge...oh and charging their users for openoffice... As far as MoonOS, they will be releasing MoonOS4 in the fall this year (they pushed the rele...

Re: Linux Mint E17
Well bad news, sorta... I pm'ed Kendell about it. He pretty much gave a great explanation of why it would be extremely difficult to do and E17 isn't maintained very well. It's been in development for quite some time now. Fluxbox is still lighter than E17, and about as resource heavy as LXDE. LXDE ha...
