Messed up \home

Hi Just reinstalled Mint 11. Usually I just back up my home folder before doing anything, however this time I was lazy. I chose the manual partition and repartitioned the \ partition and left \home as is. Everything installed ok but I have lost my old home folder and now have a new one without any c...

Re: Confused Rhythmbox

Thanks for the reply. Caught in a bit of a catch 22, Easy tag won't deal with .wav files and the various file converters I've tried won't covert my .wav files to anything else. I converted them all to mp3 a few years back at a low bit rate, hence redoing them, and had very few problems with tags, al...

Confused Rhythmbox

Hi, I've ripped all my CD's (including the embarrassing ones) to .wav using Asunder. I have stored them in the Music folder in my Home directory as /Artist/Artist-Album/Number-Artist-Track.wav. When I open Rhythmbox and scan my music all tracks and info appear under the Title column with unknown und...

Re: Sluggisssh keyboard

Thanks Husse.
As you said I needed to solve it quickly, so I used the big hammer and just reinstalled Mint.
Thinking about it, I should have checked using the live CD first.
Thanks again for the reply.

Sluggisssh keyboard

Hi,
Logitech cordless keyboard is very sluggish, 1 character per second. Tried spare keyboard, same. Rebooted and checked settings, no joy. :(
Sorry this is so short but typing this took 5 minutes. :x

Re: System tray size.

Hello again, Six months down the line and I've done it again. The same problem but now its the system tray and the digital clock. The clock is ok however the date is huge and fills all the space left in the panel. I can't figure what I've done, all I was doing was adding a couple of widgets and movi...

Re: >End Thread< Still Here, see "Moving On"

Same problem with edubuntu on a laptop, glacial connection speed and over all a bit sluggish. Its a awfully deep dark hole Ubuntu are digging themselves into if basic stuff like internet connections are left unfixed on release!. On a lighter note MINT is the dogs dodahs! and a fine example of how to...

Re: Arrrrrrgh big mistake.

Hi optimise me, Thanks for the reply. Initially I did try the exisiting install, I kind of knew it would'nt work but you have to try these things. It would'nt boot any flavour of Linux except Puppy. Tried the BIOS flash but no joy and after XFX's reply to my cry for help. I though that life was just...

Re: Arrrrrrgh big mistake.

Thanks Husse I don't like quiting, but I'm giving up. XFX gave a very short unhelpfull reply to my email, which was along the lines of, it serves you right for using linux. I tried all the suggested work arounds and nothing works,. There is quite alot on the Unbuntu forum as well, but I had no succe...

Arrrrrrgh big mistake.

Hi, Due to some over enthusiastic upgrading I managed to melt my very reliable MSI motherboard. As I live in a technological wasteland I drove 40miles to find a new MB. Passing PC World (The've just dumped all their Linux netbooks, apparently XP is the future of mobile computing) I dropped in to see...

Re: LM7 and faster broadband

Hi Husse, thanks for the fast reply. No wireless involved plugged straight into the back of a Netgear DG834N router. Connection used to be 1.0 to 1.5Mb and down to dial speed if the weather was bad. Its been constantly over 3Mb since I installed Gloria yesterday, tested it just now and it was 3.14Mb...

LM7 and faster broadband

HI,
Just upgraded to Gloria and its excellent.

However strange things are afoot!. Not complaining, but for some reason my broadband is now twice as fast!.

Has anyone else noticed a faster connection?. Has Mint fooled my ISP into giving me the connection I deserve?

Web cam adjustment

Hi, You would think I'd have better things to do at 9.30 on a friday night than play with Linux, I used to have a social life!. Anyway, just got a web cam (Technika H16WC-01) it works OK in Cheese, however the image is very dark. Is there anyway of adjusting the contrast, brightness and colour balan...

Its the one with the network manager.
I can't remember how I got it to resize, I think I was just moving it at the time.

Re: System tray size.

Thanks for the reply Husse.

I've tried adjusting all the settings I can find, but nothing works.
I can move the tray but not resize it. If I delete it and reinstall, it just fills all the available space again.

Its a minor irritant but I'd like to try and fix it.

Thanks
