Re: Workgroup problem connecting to Windows comp

I had the same problem. The Windows 7 box causing me problems was running 7 Home Premium. Windows 7 uses a different authentication method but it can be changed. 7 Pro / Ultimate can use secpol.msc but 7 Home Premium I had to run regedit and do the following. How to do it: 1 . Open registry editor ...

Re: Workgroup problem connecting to Windows comp

First, you are using Mint10 RC. It's an RC for a reason. Second: Downloaded a samba tool And what tool would that be? Third: You're using Win7 which has a hard time networking with other Windows machines of a different vintage. Forth: Update; I ran the tools smbtree and sees that I am having dual w...

Workgroup problem connecting to Windows comp

Hi. I am trying the Linux Mint 10 RC. Having problems with network-sharing to my Windows comp. Downloaded a samba tool, which I then changed the workgroup to my correct name. Checked samba.config file and the name was changed there too. But when trying to access the Mint computer from Win 7 it doesn...

Re: No sound on Toshiba NB205

Hi.

What a tricky command, why must Linux be so non userfriendly ? Couldn´t this command
at least have some sort of recognition to sound ? I am a beginner to Linux, and could not
resist to comment.

Running Linux demands a list on a paper to know all the commands...

Checking drivers and hardware

Hi.

Where do one check if all drivers are correct and installed in Mint ? In Windows you have the classic list over hardware and get the "yellow" sign if a hardware are missing drivers.

The classic; standby and suspend

Hi.

I have been tampering with this problem earlier; is there someone who knows about the classic problem with standby and suspend mode on laptops? Any progress ? Somebody got this to work ?

Keeping your new Mint with fresh new apps

Hi. Need to ask a few things about Mint. I have been running this overall great OS, but one shortcoming seems always to rise during operation. One major thing that I like is to keep the system fresh and up-to-date, both the kernel and the apps. How do one do this in a simple way ? Could I configure ...

Re: Debiand & Ubuntu based, even more confusion

But, if you would like a Mint-distro to get "bleeding-edge", which way is there to go ?

As for example, is you install the "latest" Mint you get old VLC and Transmission and so on, where to easily update and get
fresh apps and linux kernel for the system ?

Debiand & Ubuntu based, even more confusion

Hi. I have used Mint now for a couple of months on a older computer, runs fine. Need to ask you something; what is this with the new release ? Is it not better to just focus on one system and get this stable and fresh. The thing I notice about Mint is that it´s always after in updating programs. And...

Re: New Kernel 2.6.30

Tried the new Linux Mint 9 and was hoping they have fixed the issue with sleep/standby modes on laptops. Tested with
the live-CD and no success, when will this be fixed ?

Re: A solution for sound in Intel ICH

Sorry, but must say this sucks. Were running Ubuntu 9.10 and previous Mint and the sound worked fine. It seem's you always has to compromise with Linux. I was getting used to Standby mode and sleep mode not working but now it's the sound that's missing too. Too bad, Linux Mint seems so good.

Burning applications

Hi.

I am just now testing Ubuntu 9.10, before running Mint. As I an remember Mint had support for .IMG files from the start. Could you please tell me what application that mint uses for burning .IMG because it worked good from the start.

Thanks,
Rufus

Hi again.

I am trying the new beta of Ubuntu 9.10, and for your information, the flash-movies plays nice. Both small and fullscreen modes. Great news !! Good for the new Mint.. :-)

Re: Updating repositories

I believe that the 'distros' you seek are in the testing stages of an Unstable Release. LinuxMint-7 and Ubuntu 9.04 are based off Debian 5.0 Lenny (very stable). But Lenny is only updated and released about every 3 years or so. A new version of Ubuntu is released every 6 months. An unstable (rollin...

Re: Updating repositories

Hi again. Have read the info, but I am really confused here. In removed, see no vlc or firefox updates. Shortly, if one seeks a distro that you can keep up-to-date without waiting half a year, which one to choose ? Can I in someway "easy" get my apps in Mint up-to-date ? Or is there anothe...
