Re: LED keyboard and Mint 19

Not supported? Fair enough, but the lighting used to work just fine regardless. Anyway, I'll bookmark that link. Thanks.

LED keyboard and Mint 19

I wasn't sure where else to put it, so newbie section it is. When I upgraded from 18.3 to 19, I noticed that the LED-lit keyboard I use would no longer respond to the 'lights on'-key (Scroll lock). I don't know whether to laugh out loud and kiss someone (spoiler alert: I EFFING DESPISE LED-lit compu...

Re: Internet busted after move to 19, out of ideas...

Uh- Say WHAT?? ... So, my internet seems to have come back. I can't even...! as they say. Fair enough. I wish I knew what solved it, though - maybe that new wired connection I set up. I'll leave this topic up for a few days before I mark it as solved, just in case. In summary, everything is back to ...

Re: Internet busted after move to 19, out of ideas...

My motherboard is too old to have UEFI/SecureBoot. I'll try to look for it the next boot-up, make sure it's duly ban-hammered, but I doubt that'll work...

Internet busted after move to 19, out of ideas... [SOLVED]

I apologize if I make things more cluttered, but I didn't want to hijack someone else's thread. So, my wired internet went down after updating to Tara... (and booting into it, applying a couple of updates, removing obsolete packages, setting up desktop themes...) I read about the issues with kernel ...

Re: I done a boo-boo. Help get my CD-drive bay back...

... 'Off'... I guess I should have thought of that. Well, I did try again, with power on  , and the paper clip trick worked as advertised. And now the drive appears to behave normally again. Huh? Is that how these situations usually go? Anyway, I've looked around for a new CD/DVD drive, and fo...

Re: I done a boo-boo. Help get my CD-drive bay back...

Uh... Wow! I've never had an optical drive fail on me before - maybe there's a first time for everything. I tried the paper clip thing, but it just caused an unpleasant noise that seemed to shift the CD I have inside to an orientation that causes it to rub against something... (This CD isn't irrepla...

I done a boo-boo. Help get my CD-drive bay back...

So... The title is fairly descriptive. I sat there, just doing some spring cleaning among libraries, removing some that didn't break any dependencies... and now I can't open my CD/DVD drive bay. (When I push the physical button, stuff happens inside the drive but the bay won't open. If I use a menu ...

Re: My partitioning just got... eccentric

Yeah, I'll probably have to do it that way... I'll wait until 18.3 is out and do a proper reinstall, though, for that extra fresh feeling. Heh, there have been some eccentricities from my Mint installation for a while too, so it's just as well!

Re: popping sound at startup

Just out of curiosity, what sound card do you have? I have an ASUS Xonar D2, and it clicks quite a lot during boot - which is, in the case of that card, perfectly normal. Something about relays; I dunno, I kind of zone out at that point of the explanation.

Re: Help -installing mint -confused why!

Colin: Maybe you've already learned this, but I'll mention it anyway, just in case: Remember to remove the installation disc when you reboot after completing the installation, or you'll just boot right back into the demo/installation environment. Now, then. It sounds like you're concerned about a bl...

My partitioning just got... eccentric

Heeey, it's been forever since I last posted here! Somewhat good news, though: After swearing incessantly over the anti-dualboot insanity Microsoft has been sneaking into Windows 10, I just nuked my Windows partition. Woo! ... That is, after assembling a new, physically separate, PC, so I can do my ...

Re: Linux Mint Installer not reading my windows 10 partition

Ah, I was just looking for information on a quite related subject! Well, depending on your version of Win10, it seems they recently introduced something in the ( normal! ) shutdown procedure that makes the drive/partition appear to be in a hibernating state, effectively blocking it from non-Windows ...

(Don't count on me to be around frequently. Blame university, Final Fantasy XV, and Shining Force 3. ) The first thing to check is your Display module in System Settings. See if it detects your HDMI display (TV, was it?). It SHOULD have a distinct ID string... I may be gettings things mixe...

Re: Windows stole my partitions!?

... Okay, this is just insane on every level. The first time I got my computer to turn off properly was by right-clicking on the start menu and picking an option from there. I just... what... NOT EVEN JRPGS ARE THIS INSANE! Why did anyone ever think this was a design feature anyone would appreciate?...

Re: Windows stole my partitions!?

Justinian: Oh... Windows just had to have one last laugh at us dual-booters, huh? You know, I was actually directed to a link explaining that just 30-40 minutes ago. Proper steps have now been resorted to, and I'm starting to feel confident.

Windows stole my partitions!?

Oh, the joys of dual-boot! So, there's me running Win 7 + Mint 17 and being a happy camper. Then there's a free upgrade to Win 10 and I decided to go for it. After a... let's just sum it up as 'harrowing' post-upgrade experience (damn you, Gigabyte!), the dust has now settled. When I try to listen t...

Re: A/D profiling

... Um... Okay, it might in part have been my fault - apparently both digital and analog outputs are listed, but only in the actual settings module. Also, their naming isn't uniform (ie. one is named Digital Output (S/PDIF); the other is named Virtuoso 200 (Xonar D2) Analog stereo) - maybe this thre...

The Configuration tab might be the rub - it's missing. I have Output, Input, Sound effects (or is it Event sounds?) and Software, but not Configuration.

Re: A/D profiling

Yes, I'm with you so far, but for whatever reason that option was... not an option. I only see one entry for my soundcard, and that's either analog OR digital - or am I just misreading? Hm... I just noticed something. I'll monkey around a little more, and try to report back tomorrow. Consider this o...
