Re: Mint KDE 15
Well this is pure nonsense on Mint's part. It is like saying Windows XP's end of life cycle will be longer than Windows 8. But then there will be Mint 16,17,18 so it is a moot point. It is purely because of Canonical's decision to only support non-LTS releases for 9 months. The current 12.04 LTS is...

Re: Multimedia keys only work with Amarok
I do not use Amarok. I am using Clementine; I don't even have Amarok installed yet I cannot get my "Play/Stop" "Next" "Previous" keys to work in Clementine. Even after removing Amarok shortcuts. Can anyone help me get this resolved? Key bindings are found in System Set...

Re: How to find information about hardware?
The application you want that has this information is KInfoCenter, which is a standard KDE application and is installed by default. Hope that helps.

Re: Mint KDE 15
One shortcoming of KDE is that they do tend to release things before they are ready for prime time. 4.10 was a case in point. It seems to me that KDE would make a much better impression if it did not fall flat on its face with bugs, but was stable and solid, because that's what users want most of a...

Re: KDE autostart
Each time I start mint KDE, the system automatically starts a number of applications (firefox, 3 x document viewer each with different documents, nemo, yakuake). Can anyone tell me where linux stores the list of applications it automatically starts ? I already looked in /home/marc/.kde/Autostart /ho...

Re: KDE 4.10 tips?
Another invaluable tool for debian-based KDE systems (I use Kubuntu) is the package kde-config-grub2: http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/kde-config-grub2 . Installs into the System Settings and lets you use a well-designed GUI to manage all things related to your GRUB bootloader, including the remov...

Re: kde desktop with cinnamon start menu?
Sorry for the late response. Welcome to Linux! I would venture to guess that what you are asking for is impossible - or at least not easy. If you want a good alternative to the default KDE Kickoff launcher, I would recommend KDE's Homerun Launcher. It's really good! :D http://www.muktware.com/5525/k...

Re: [SOLVED] Cloud Solution for Mint KDE
There's also no reason at all that you can't instill Ubuntu One. It works fine in KDE - You just have to deal with the Gnome-wallet authorization once (normally leaving the password blank). Works great. There is also an U1 service menu for Dolphin for right-clicking a file and uploading to u1, or to...

Re: MATE vs CINNAMON vs KDE
My advice would be to try KDE with the Plasma Netbook Workspace (Selectable from within System Settings). Then install the package kubuntu-lowfat-settings and you will be fine. I've used on several laptops and netbooks with 1GB of RAM without issue. Installing the lowfat settings package is a must, ...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE
@dequire I recommend whole-heartedly that people who love Debian based systems (apt-get XXXX) move to Kubuntu. As the Virginia Slims commercial says...."They've Come A Long Way Baby". Yes, it is a lot better now. Why doesn't Mint just take Kubuntu, add the "low hanging forbidden frui...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE
If you look at the "pie chart" of mint users on the "community page" you will see that those using KDE on mint, as you pointed out, are a very very small percentage of the total Mint users...In fact, even less then use LMDE (which is about 10%) the vast majority run main edition...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE
You want the honest bottom line? No one from Mint is in any way connected to or plugged into the KDE community at all. Uhm...do I really need to say anything else? Again, this is not a knock a Boo, who I respect. But facts are facts. Mint KDE does not exist. If you love KDE, this is not the place fo...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE
Well I've been around for a while now, and (and the cost of potential flames), I'll post some observations here. I've been running KDE for a long-ish time now - since the 4.0 release. It's come a long way since then to say the least. But, to the point, here are my thoughts on Mint KDE: * First and f...

Re: KDE 4.6.4 is out - howto upgrade ?
A new package not available immediately on the distro was the driving factor for the decision? It doesn't matter either way, but if you're one who needs the latest packages as soon as they release, a rolling distro is definitely for you. I don't think a static distro with a regular release cycle wi...
