Re: Separate partition for home folder?

Well thanks for your advice, everyone. senjoz, that command seems to just tell me the size of the existing partitions, and I already know how much space I'd use, so that's not really an issue. Also, someone said something about GParted. I actually do the partitioning in Windows because I read that i...

Re: Separate partition for home folder?

Well I have a Windows partition, a recovery partition for Windows, a "reserved" partition and an EFI partition (which were all included with the computer), and then I made a Linux Mint partition, but I'm certain that I'm already using UEFI (I checked in the BIOS and also once I booted into...

Separate partition for home folder?

I'm planning to reinstall Linux, mainly because I gave it a smaller partition than I should have, not realizing at the time how much space I'd want for it. This isn't really a big deal, because I can easily back up everything I want, and reconfigure it quickly once it's reinstalled. And it will also...

Re: Weird Cubic Problems

So then why don't you tell me how to use chroot? I'm pretty sure I understand what it does but I don't understand the purpose for it or the proper context in which to use it, or why it would be used specifically in this context. EDIT: Also, it seems kind of dangerous, because if I make a folder act ...

Re: Weird Cubic Problems

Why does everyone recommend that one? It looks even more convoluted and harder to use than Cubic! I was using Live Kit until I realized that it isn't compatible with UEFI. Then I tried Ubuntu Imager, which seems to be compatible with it, except that I can never get the ISO to actually finish booting...

Weird Cubic Problems

I'm not exactly sure if this goes here, because Cubic is a software program, but it's for making bootable Linux live ISOs, so I just put it here. Anyway, when I run Cubic, for some reason it doesn't display the home folder as a result of the ls command, so it acts like it doesn't exist, which means ...

Re: Can't clone using GParted Live.

sanmig: Yes that's exactly right, I want it to run entirely in RAM so that it can manipulate any drive, and by the way, that's what a live OS often does (at the very least it shouldn't write onto the drive, unless there's a separate persistence file, which in this case, there isn't), and it is after...

Re: Can't clone using GParted Live.

I've read about it and even tried it now, but it doesn't seem to boot. I tried booting it using Ventoy (which is what I need to do for what I'm trying to accomplish), and it looked like it was through loading and then it prompted me to log in (still in the text interface), but no matter what I typed...

Re: Can't clone using GParted Live.

sanmig and AZgl1500, I'll check that out, but keep in mind that I can't use something that runs in Mint, because I'm trying to clone the drive on which Mint resides, so I need to run something that will boot live (and must be compatible with Ventoy, which is why I was using GParted - because I had t...

Can't clone using GParted Live.

I installed Ventoy onto a 16 GB USB stick (really like 14.something GB but it's called 16 GB). It put Ventoy on the second partition of 32 MB at the end (FAT16), and kept the whole rest of it as a blank EXT4 partition. This is what it's supposed to do. Then I put some ISO files on the first partitio...

Re: Video Wallpapers Mess Up Desktop Icons!

I uninstalled the program but also had to instal Desktop Folder and that seems to fix the problem. I actually like it better than the default way that the desktop works in some ways, except that it doesn't allow me to put the Computer and Trash icons on the desktop, but I can easily get to those fol...

Re: Video Wallpapers Mess Up Desktop Icons!

But it's not causing an error, per se, but rather it just doesn't show icons or the right-click menu. This is even when I quit the program completely, so if I were to uninstall it, I don't see how it would change the effect and cause an error after that (but could it?). In any case, without an actua...

Re: Video Wallpapers Mess Up Desktop Icons!

I just searched for how to use video wallpaper in Linux and found this page: https://ostechnix.com/set-animated-video-wallpapers-linux-desktop/ And I followed its instructions, except that it said that there may be a newer version than what it used (2.0), so what I got is 2.1, but I didn't see anywh...

Video Wallpapers Mess Up Desktop Icons! [Solved]

I installed Komorebi so that I could set up a video wallpaper for my desktop. But it messed up my icons in such a way that it no longer shows the Computer icon, the text files look like black outlines of rectangles, and everything has moved to align on a vertical grid, and they're all reordered. At ...

Installer on a partition? (SOLVED)

Is it possible to put the ISO of Mint 20 with Cinnamon (or any other version/GUI) onto just one partition of a USB stick and have it still boot properly, as well and compatibly as if it were burned onto the whole drive, and still display in the BIOS/UEFI boot menu?

Re: Can't get any VMs to work at all

Well I told it to completely uninstall it in Synaptic (which I think worked correctly) and I tried those lines of text again, but when I tried to install Python it said it can't create a sym link because it already exists. Then I ran VirtualBox and told it to run my ISO (it was still on the list, I ...
