Re: Firefox launcing and Video Playing Weird Issues
I'm not an expert at all, but you could try refreshing Firefox and clearing the startup cache. Click the hamburger menu, then Help, then Troubleshooting information. You should then see the options to clear the startup cache and refresh Firefox. There is also the option to start in safe mode(without...

Re: intel rapid storage technology
Snipy snip snip An SSD would be the best option for sure. When my HDD failed I was going to buy a new custom built gaming pc, but the thought of spyware10 made me cheap out and replace the HDD and try Linux. I don't really have an issue with performance in Linux, The first load of a program is a li...

Re: intel rapid storage technology
Try Ctrl+i during boot. That's the one, Thanks :D The manual for your machine can be downloaded at https://www.asus.com/me-en/Motherboards/P8Z68V/HelpDesk_Manual/ Nice find, Thank you. I have no idea where my physical copy of the manual went. As this seemingly won't work on Linux I guess I will jus...

intel rapid storage technology
Let the mega noob dumbness commence. Before switching to Mint20 I was running windows 7 and I had Intel rapid storage technology set up. (it came pre configured) I'm not too familiar with how it works, but basically I had a standard HDD with the OS on it and a small 64GB SSD. It was setup to use the...

Re: How to make GPU-accelerated decoding of videos watched through Firefox with a NVIDIA GPU?
Firefox preferences has some acceleration settings. I think they try to default to something useful, but maybe it's not a good setting on that setup. Do you know where can I find those settings? I don't see any of that in the normal 'preferences' menu... Preferences, General, Scroll down to Perform...

Re: setting default audio outputs and inputs?
snip I'm a little confused, but maybe I didn't explain this very well either, haha Before doing anything in the terminal I installed pavucontrol and tried setting various devices as the fall back device, with no luck. I entered this into the terminal xed admin:///etc/pulse/default.pa It opened up t...

Re: setting default audio outputs and inputs?
LOL! You're welcome. And pavucontrol does most of what you want, but adding the USB devices into the mix does complicate it somewhat. Thank you once again for this info, I think its now staying on my preferred devices on boot. I have only done a restart at the moment but everything was still setup ...

Re: setting default audio outputs and inputs?
snip Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I will try and go though the info you have kindly given. As I have just spent 5 hours trying to get my steering wheel and foot pedals working in a game, I have had my fill of wrestling with Linux for today, but tomorrow I will try and wrap my head around the...

setting default audio outputs and inputs?
Novice user here. How do I set the default audio output and input device? My pc has a built in Realtek 5.1 surround sound card. I mostly use the rear stereo line out socket to plug into my amp. I have a USB Blue Yeti microphone that has a sound output as well as a stereo mic. I also have a USB webca...

Re: Linux Mint 20 freezes under low to medium load
This probably wont help but, is your CPU overclocked? My system was freezing up with very similar symptoms. I reset the BIOS back to factory (removing the overclock) and the freezes stopped. I had my pc custom built and overclocked to 4.6GHZ from the company. It was running stable in Windows7 for 8 ...

Re: Gaming on Linux Mint 20
I have been playing (Via Steam) Planet Coaster Cities Skylines Euro Truck Simulator All of which seem to run great for the most part. Planet Coaster works, but I can't get custom music to play. Everything else works and runs smoothly. Cities Skylines also works. The traffic simulation very occasiona...

ALT+TAB to select desktop?
When I use ALT+TAB to toggle through open windows there isn't an option for the desktop like in windows 7 I was running a full screen game with no other windows open and I wanted to get back to the desktop. ALT+TAB was no use because the desktop was not an option to cycle to. I tried the windows but...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
I have given up on Linux several times in the past. I first tried Ubuntu back when windows vista was a thing. I saw a video showing off Compiz and I thought it looked really cool. The novelty soon wore off when I realised that I couldn't install programs as easily, and many programs I like simply ar...

Re: copy paste of images not working
I never knew you could do that in windows. I always dragged the file from the folder into the chat bar to send it over Skype.
I have not tried Skype on mint yet, so I have no idea if that works here either.

Re: Setting GPU Execution Cap
I'm also a Planet Coaster player, but I have Nvidia graphics. On windows, if I minimized the game it would slow the GPU usage right down as if it were running in the background. When running it using Proton it just runs flat out even when minimized. This makes multitasking quite sluggish. Firefox wi...

Addendum: Still trying to find a way to install the new NVidia 455.28 video driver onto my system. It doesn't show up yet on the Driver Manager or Update Manager. I went to the official NVidia site and downloaded the driver which left a file on my desktop called "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-455.28.run...

Re: [SOLVED] Mint 20 totally locks up, generally unstable and various oddities
Terminal command india -Fxz|grep -i temp will give the temperature. Please copy paste it. Thanks for that, it will come in handy. I have been going to the system reports window to find the CPU temp and the Nvidia X server settings for the GPU temps. I was hoping to find an overlay that displays on ...

Re: [SOLVED] Mint 20 totally locks up, generally unstable and various oddities
It is probable that the overclocking made the system hotter and thus the fans ran more. You could check in Nvidia X Server Settings to see what fan and/or temperature controls are there. There might also be settings related to your FPS, but I'm not sure. I know some gaming platforms have options on...
