Stop MATE from resetting brightness level after restart.
I have mint mate 20 running on my hp 15-da1071ne. The problem is that the brightness resets to max brightness after every restart or logout/login. This isn't a big problem but it is kinda annoying.

Re: How to map numpad keys to normal number keys.
I figured it out by myself. First check if your numpad keycodes matches mine using xev. copy the following: keycode 87=0x31 keycode 88=0x32 keycode 89=0x33 keycode 83=0x34 keycode 84=0x35 keycode 85=0x36 keycode 79=0x37 keycode 80=0x38 keycode 81=0x39 keycode 90=0x30 -Save this into a text file and ...

[Solved partially]Could not use brightness keys and airplane mode on linux mint 20.
On linux, I could not use display brightness keys f2-f3 nor airplane mode key f12. I there a way to enable these keys functionality? Edit: I went to keyboard settings and reconfigured the shortcuts. My laptop specs: System: Kernel: 5.4.0-52-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.3.0 Desktop: Cin...

I know it may not be the case, but did you enable UEFI secure boot lately? It will likely block the wifi driver (that was the case with me).

I would get it alongside firefox. I have chromium edge for windows and I really like it. And tbh it is similar to firefox.

Re: Power management help.
I think I will mark this as solved. I just need to get 1 watt of saving to get on par with windows 10. Even if I couldn't 8 hours of runtime is still good enough

Re: Power management help.
I downloaded bumblebee from the software manager.
When I removed it, I was no longer able to disable the nvidia GPU, so I got it back again.

Re: Power management help.
Your initial post indicates you disabled the dGPU. I do not know what steps you took to do that, but that might be why the Nvidia version is not showing. For now, I have used TLP, set the hard disk drive to timeout after 5 minutes of inactivity, and set up Nvidia optimus to disable the dGPU. I disa...

Re: Power management help.
The weird thing is that when I did the tuning thing related to the dGPU the system became unstable. Fortunately a reboot fixes it.
Why isn't the inix showing the dGPU, I have the proprietary driver installed, should I be worried?

I did install the nvidia 450 driver, why it didn't show in the informations above? Does it have something to do with Nvidia optimus?antikythera wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 7:30 pmRuntime PM for the geforce gpu however is one you could try sorting out. Have you installed the proprietary nvidia driver yet? your inxi shows N/A for it.

Re: Power management help.
I am getting like 8 hours of runtime compared to about 11-12 hour on windows. I know it isn't bad but still I see room for some improvements. Using TLP and fixing optimus pushed runtime from terrible 3 hours to 8 hours. Still I'm seeking for some more tweaks to push runtimes to levels similar of win...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
Back from 6 months ago. I swapped windows 10 for linux, I was bombarded with multiple issues: - Wifi not working, had to get driver. -Poor battery life, even with nvidia optimus. -Lack of understanding of the terminal -Lack of MS office So I got back to windows. 2 Days ago, I had the idea of dual bo...

[Solved]Power management help.
Is there ways to reduce battery usage on linux mint? For now, I have used TLP, set the hard disk drive to timeout after 5 minutes of inactivity, and set up Nvidia optimus to disable the dGPU. I still want to optimise system further. Is there any service that can be disabled to save power? Or any mor...

[Solved] Dual boot Windows 10 and Mint 20 headache.
I recently installed windows 10 alongside linux mint 20. Windows was installed first so I shrunk the windows C: partition and installed linux in the space that got unallocated. During the installation I chose the option of dual boot. The issue is that no linux mint entry was added to the windows boo...
