That was not, is not, and will not be a problem for me. I never use the CLI.
What does this have to do with fixing my problem?
You fix your problem by recognising that it does not exist.
Well this is simply incorrect.

It's already been documented here - https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/search
I'm not sure what this page is. I'm sure these commands are somewhere out there already. I never said they weren't. I'm trying to see that they're put in a less arbitrary place to make future users more efficient.

The CLI is a big part of using linux.
Hogwash. I have LMDE4 here running my entire household and have never had recourse to go into the command line.
Your experience isn't good evidence to counter my argument. I'm talking about the entire linux community.

Re: Request that a message be stickied...

You could post it in the 'Suggestions and New Ideas' section of the forum. But I would recommend formulating it more clearly than you did here, as it turns out that your request that a message be stickied is not about a message, and not about making anything sticky. I would also suggest that the Do...

Re: Request that a message be stickied...

Hey just generally, I do want to thank everyone for the discussion thus far. I don't mean to be a huge pain in the butt or ask for everything to be hand fed to me or something. The first problem I had after installing linux mint was I couldn't use the CLI because I couldn't remember any commands (it...

Re: Request that a message be stickied...

One of the toughest parts of trying to accomplish something like this request is deciding what to include. Stuff such as: 1. How many, and which, commands to include. 2. How far to dumb down the instructions. Should you include instructions on how to open a terminal window? How about copy/paste ins...

Re: Request that a message be stickied...

instead of help, type the following: man programnamegoeshere or programnamegoeshere --help This assumes that the person, who is now arriving on Linux, already knows the names of the commands. This is where the pig twists its tail, the chicken scratches forward and the vulture flies sideways. Yeah l...

instead of help, type the following:

Code: Select all

man programnamegoeshere
or

Code: Select all

programnamegoeshere --help
Yeah man should definitely be on the list, starting with man man.

Oh yeah sure I don't mind doing it myself. Just wanted to make sure y'all were on board with making a change to the website first. There's not really a change to the website involved. So this is what I'm trying to do. How can I make that kind of request? Keep in mind that many people can happily us...

Re: Request that a message be stickied...

should commands really not be more easily accessible? I know it's a pretty extreme request since I just got here last night, but in Important Notices a command list commands list would be great I think. Like what commands? What solutions are you looking for the commands for? please make a list here...

Re: Request that a message be stickied...

So instead of requesting that someone else do it, how about writing the content that you would want to see? This forum is a community effort after all. Re: Request that a message be stickied...

Yeah sorry, but from there I'm still not even seeing where I'm supposed to look. Scroll down on that page, and look in the section called Topics. There are tutorials there. Maybe not the exact ones you'd want to see, but there are tutorials. I know. I do see the tutorials, but should commands reall...

You can also look in the tutorials section, most of those topics are in there. Where is this? In the Main Edition Support area of the forum, where you also found Newbie Questions. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=42 Anyway, a message can't be made sticky if there is no message to make s...
