Re: Installing Open Office

Thanks for the info xenopeek. I was aware of some of this but not the fact that operating systems could not distribute OpenOffice. Guess I'll stick with LibreOffice.

Installing Open Office

I would like to install Open Office. I've tried both the Software Manager and the Package Manager but I can't seem to find the Open Office suite (the full suite, not just pieces of it). Am I missing something?

gotjazz: Can you tell me exactly what problem you were having? Sounds like it may be something similar to one I had.

Problem booting LMDE Live DVD

I downloaded the LMDE ISO, burned to a DVD (at slow speed) and booted. It starts scrolling text then the screen goes blank and the computer is locked up. In an attempt to isolate the problem I downloaded again from a different mirror. I used a different piece of software to burn this ISO to a differ...

Re: How to install nvidia driver on LMDE?

I guess I've been spoiled by the "Hardware Drivers" icon and the automatic search and installation that this feature does. Hopefully something similar can be added to LMDE at some point.

Re: cannot change nvidia settings

cebalrai--As I said in my previous post I don't think this issue is the fault of Linux Mint. When you download a nvidia driver, you are working with a piece of restricted software developed by nvidia--not Linux Mint or any other distribution of LInux. Nvidia should have made an easy way to get this ...

Re: cannot change nvidia settings

I have solved this by logging in as root, then going to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Rename the xorg.conf file to something else. While still logged on as root, go back to the nvidia settings, make the changes you want and save. You may still get an error message but ignore it and proceed. You may need to po...

Re: Need help! As soon as possible! Monitor resolution 800x600

It's not very clear to me from the SIS website just which driver to use. If I understand it right, the SIS650 driver is included in Linux already but it looks like it might be for Red Hat LInux. The drivers available for download look like they are for other distributions. I think I would try to con...

Re: Need help! As soon as possible! Monitor resolution 800x600

If there are no drivers to download for your video chip, that may be the problem. I don't know if SIS makes LInux drivers or not, but apparently there is not one available for this chip, or you would probably be able to get it through the process I mentioned. You might check the SIS website or do a ...

Have you installed the driver for your video chip using Menu--Administration--Hardware Drivers?

Re: mint8 is worse than 7

I thought Ctrl+L was the standard Firefox keyboard shortcut to access the Location Bar. It has worked for me in Linux Mint 8, Linux Mint 7, Ubuntu and Windows. I don't think it's a function of Linux Mint.

Re: SOLVED--Problem with adding secondary hard drive

UPDATE: I am no longer having this issue after I installed Linux Mint 8. I can add and remove hard drives and Linux Mint 8 will still boot if I specify the drive it is installed on as the first boot drive, with no additional configuration necessary. I'm guessing this is due to the new version of GRU...

BIOS Clock Reset

My system is set to time zone America--New York with the correct time and date with configuration set to manual. When rebooting, if I go into the system BIOS, the time is reset to 5 hours ahead of what is was in Linux Mint. If I then boot another operating system (from a different hard drive) the ti...

SOLVED--Problem with adding secondary hard drive

I have 2 hard drives in my computer--I'll call them Drive A and Drive B. Drive A has Windows Vista installed. It also has Linux Mint 7 installed under Windows using mint4win. I installed Linux Mint 7 on Drive B using the Live CD. Prior to doing so I disconnected the data cable from Drive A so it wou...
