Re: Fix For Boot/Install Probs w/ Live DVD/USB Mint8KDE=SOLVED

Does anyone have any other suggestions? It's not crucial that I get it running (currently I'm on Windows 7), but it would certainly be nice. If it's the video driver, perhaps there's some way to force load another one? (Then again that might not even be it, I have no clue.)

Re: Fix For Boot/Install Probs w/ Live DVD/USB Mint8KDE=SOLVED

rec9140: Nope, no good! I was pretty sure that's what I tried last night, but I did it again anyways. I'm pretty sure the LiveCD is loading, but my screen is blank. So it's probably some kind of graphics problem. Standard Mint works fine, though, as did the previous KDE version. Weird.

Re: Fix For Boot/Install Probs w/ Live DVD/USB Mint8KDE=SOLVED

I have tried every suggestion in this thread with no luck. My graphics are ATI Radeon 3100, the integrated stuff for my laptop. rec9140, you mentioned "nosplash", would one just type that in, or is there something else?

Re: Recommendations for a new laptop / notebook

I've had pretty bad luck with three of the brands you mentioned, actually (and I haven't had experience with a Sony)... Have you looked at any of the new Toshiba Satellites? You can get a really nice computer at a great deal if you find one on sale.

Re: Some Linux wireless philosophy, a word on WEP

brian_va: I'm actually having the exact same issue as you. But other people are having issues with WPA, or any network at all. That's kind of where the issue is. Windows has the backing of the hardware manufacturers. This means that when you get a computer with Windows on it, the manufacturer has al...

Re: WEP doesn't work

Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned before, the exact same key works fine in Windows. I really have no clue what it is, and I can't switch off WEP.

WEP doesn't work

So I kind of hijacked a thread in the newbie section from someone who had a similar problem, but no one's looking at it and I figured it would be better to get all my info in one place. So here goes. My WEP key isn't working right. The key is a ten digit number. I've tried inputting this as both a s...

Re: Getting more Mint/Linux users ?

by rufus0101 on Sat Aug 29, 2009 11:49 am If you managed to get Linux more like Windows - then you would have more users. It´s as simple as that, take my word for it. http://i41.tinypic.com/4g5mf.jpg That's what I was about to say. :D The only issues I've had with Mint (and previously Kubuntu) all ...

Re: Wireless Network Password Problem

BUMP: After doing some searching in the Ubuntu forums, I've found several people who have the same problem. It seems to be a specific problem with Jaunty, which doesn't surprise me as LM6 worked fine. WEP seems to be the main culprit, and I have no way of changing the security as the router is my la...

Re: Wireless Network Password Problem

I'm having a similar problem, but I have a regular WEP key. My card detects the network okay, but it will not accept the key (2173674824). It tries to connect for a while, but then it asks for the key again. This happens multiple times until it gives up. I'm dual-booting Vista, and the network/key c...
