Re: Timeshift backup time setting [SOLVED]
If its run daily, the lost files could be quite few... Even though it still maybe problematic.
If the backup was done by the OS (like Linux kernel) all the new files would be backup immediately during creation.

Re: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled
I would suspect this also (but it was done in "local shop" here). So I try again with "ARCTIC MX-4" once it arrives, and results are as below: THERMAL_PASTE2.png It looks better than with the thermal paste from the "local shop", but still not as good as even the origina...

Re: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled
Yes. If it becomes available... When? Thermal paste was changed, then it still appears throttling: Feb 17 17:22:48 ENVY-17 kernel: [ 389.173478] mce: CPU3: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 382) Feb 17 17:22:48 ENVY-17 kernel: [ 389.173478] mce: CPU7: Package t...

Re: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled
I would not find out though if the expressVPN would allow wireguard to connect to their VPN servers.
It is nearly impossible to connect to VPN servers with other manufacturer VPN client software.

Re: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled
This later 5.8.x kernel may have helped to remove the boot-time messages for CPU throttling. This might have effect also during normal operation of the laptop. I may inspect during following week how it affect and are messages now completely disappeared. But if this is just some kernel message that ...

Re: Timeshift backup time setting
It is possible the setting is wrong: 0 * * * * root timeshift --check --scripted -> It should be 'create' not 'check' 0 3 * * * root timeshift --create --tags D --scripted But this looks complicated (why is it made as this?) Nothing of course is impossible, but becomes little hard this way, which wa...

Re: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled
This must be checked. I think the issue was there already all the time since purchase of the laptop.
Maybe this HP-ENVY does not have enough of cooling included (even as new).

Re: Timeshift backup time setting
I can check the cron-file: "/etc/cron.d/timeshift-hourly", but there is no setting in the menus (the "settings"-tab in the timeshift) for it. CRON1.png If you inspect this "timeshift-hourly", it literally is set for every hour, but this has not been observed to occur ev...

Re: Timeshift backup time setting
That doesn't look constructive if you don't know about it and neither does this text here what I just read. I hope to stick in this issue and not expand to the "crowd & carneval". Maybe next Mint 20.2 will be named "Linux Mint 20.2 Carneval"? Well that case congratulations. M...

Re: Timeshift backup time setting
ok. But problem is because the USB gets 'jammed' when transferring files to the USB-pendrive that is set as the backup location.
Thus if I can not use the 'jammed' USB wireless mouse&kbd at 14:00-14:xx is inconvenient for me.

The graphics could not fill the login window completely
The graphics is missing at the right side of the window red rectangle area.
This would not cause any problem, but looks like some type of error in graphics area definition.
