Re: HP Envy 17-j007tx and Windows 8 Dual Boot

Thanks for the information; I'm considering buying the HP Envy 17 for new Mint laptop, and if you can get dual-boot to work well, I should be able to get full install working as well.

Many thanks.

Re: How can I make Open File dialog box retain sequence?

Thanks, cogier. That is actually the exact steps I take... every single time I do an open . My fault that I did not explain this correctly. In my LM9 laptop, whatever order I choose to use (using the same steps you describe so well), is the order that appears the next time I do a Ctrl-O. For example...

How can I make Open File dialog box retain sequence?

Yeah, goofy question, I know. I'm switching over to LM12 from LM9, now running Cinnamon (really like that better, too, good job team!) and have been able to figure out most things so far. But this one eludes me, and I don't know if something has changed going from LM9 to LM12, or if I changed a prop...

Re: VirtualBox on Mint 12 host, which version of VirtualBox?

Thanks, Robert, that's just what I needed to hear/read. I got a new laptop, and need to install LM12 then VB for a Winders7 install; I need the Winders crap for work:-( unfortunately. OTOH I have found MS Word/Excel under Wine to be less than optimal, though that has been an Office 2000 install unde...

Re: Install Java 6.21 Plugin For Mint 9 x64 with FF 3.6.10

vincent: very nice comments; I found your post quite useful after installing the 1.6.0_22 Java update from the repos. Both Ff and command line showed me still using 1.6.0_18 version, and while I remembered something about having to execute a config command, I forgot the process. I did find though, a...

Re: How to install HPLIP on Isadora (main, x64) for Officeje

Ouch! Unfortunately, you will need to get that internet connection working first. If you note, instruction 7 does state you need an active internet connection; that is due to the dependencies which get satisfied during that step.

Re: Firefox 4 beta is out (First looks???)

Hey axel668, I tried out the link you provided and was able to install the beta Greasemonkey (2010.07.14.beta) and I'm able to use it after a fashion. I don't do anything fancy with GM, and only on a very few sites. The sites do display as I want them to display, so the GM scripts are working. Not a...

Re: Firefox 4 beta is out (First looks???)

Thanks again axel668! I just reinstalled FF4.0b1 and the Add-on Compatibility Reporter and almost all add-ons were enabled; TACO was the only one still disabled and I can live with that for now. I did find a way to enable add-ons which are really compatible but marked disabled, detailed below, but ...

Re: How to/Script: Automatically detect & mount NTFS partiti

Hi, calinut1. I just received my "Beginning Python" delivered today, installed Python 3.1.2 and ran a Google search to see if I could find out why Isadora defaults to version 2.6...this thread was the first item listed. Anyway, as I'm learning too, I read your code with interest, and do have a sugge...

Re: Firefox 4 beta is out (First looks???)

Thanks, axel668, great info on Greasemonkey. I've found I can't live (well) without that either--as I get older I find I need larger font sizes, so GM is definitely one of my best friends.

Here's a link to a Computerworld article comparing FF4 to Chrome--it's interesting.

Firefox 4 beta is out (First looks???)

I got a ZDNet blog notice today that Firefox 4.0 beta (previously known as FF 3.7pre) is out. Here is a link for the download; release notes ; new features . The big news (so far) is that the "new look" interface (tabs on top, etc.) is for Windows only as of July 7 2010--Linux and Mac versions still...

Re: How to install HPLIP on Isadora (main, x64) for Officeje

Good question. The answer is (AFAIK), without going through the download and install, you do not have access to all the HPLIP functionality, including the toolkit and systray. The toolkit is an all-in-one control to monitor printer status including ink levels, control scans and copies, align print h...

Re: 64-bit is great but...Thunderbird takes a hit.

Hmmmmm, according to this , Sunbird isn't flying any more, the Mozilla Calendar team--those are the 32-bit guys--recommend moving to Lightning... To answer though, no, I haven't tried Sunbird as when I was looking for a TB-companion calendar, Lightning seemed the better of the two. I could try it......

How to install HPLIP on Isadora (main, x64) for Officejet.

I have an HP Officejet 6500 e709n wireless all-in-one printer/scanner/copier/fax. Mint detects the printer right away, of course, and sets up all required drivers, but the full HPLIP software shows ink status, scanning controls, etc. all in one place which I prefer. As my first foray into HPLIP on G...

Re: 64-bit is great but...Thunderbird takes a hit.

Thanks, gn2, but I tried that already. I guess I missed including that in my post.

Note that those are unsupported and considered unstable. But that does pose an interesting question which I blew off--has anyone got Lightning to work successfully on TB 3.0.4 under 64-bit?

64-bit is great but...Thunderbird takes a hit.

I jumped to Mint (Gloria) on my Toshiba Sat. 305 almost a year ago, but only 32-bit instead of 64--and been kicking myself since. So this past weekend I backed up, did some partition magic and installed Isadora 64-bit. There's been a bit of goofiness but all told it went fairly well...except for Thu...

Re: vino-server and gvncviewer issue

Bingo! That did the trick, at least part of it anyway. Now, I'm able to interact with the desktop (server) from the laptop (client). I can check for updates and the like. There is still the goofiness of the screen geometry. I can't see the entire screen vertically, as the laptop geometry is 1280x800...

Re: What, no Firefox 3.6 thread?

Crazy results... OK, I've got Helena on a desktop (Pent. 4 w/ 1G RAM & Nvidia card) and added the "stable" repository vrkalak provided yesterday and was able to update fine, used Package Manager to install FF3.6 (which un-installed 3.5.7--fine by me).
