My way of thinking, if Linus Torvalds walks into a bar, once a month - I'm going to at least buy him a beer.
Even if he doesn't want to talk to me, even if he doesn't know I exist, I've benefited from his efforts. Done.

"No thanks, I got Linux." October 26th
On October 26th, Windows 8 hits the store shelves. I've said before that compared to Vista, Windows 8 "doesn't completely suck." I stand by that. Am I going to spend $79.99 (US) for a copy? No. Not me, thanks. See, I got Linux... It's hard to express what Linux has done for me. I've learne...

Re: [fixed] Flash DEAD after latest update (2012-09-20)
if someone gives you candy, you don't have to eat it Yes! Free Candy! Yup, when I originally posted, Flash was broken in chromium-browser, and Firefox, and I suppose in Midori, as well. Sometimes you'll get a goofy rendering with one browser and have to switch to another, and eventually find ...

Re: Flash DEAD after latest update (2012-09-20)
Right, assuming that mint-flashplugin was the problem, I typed sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree into the command-line, which removed previous flash packages, and added the package straight from Debian. I don't know what's going to happen the next time there's a Flash update, but for now, it'...

Re: Flash DEAD after latest update (2012-09-20)
Got a few hours before I can get home from work to make this happen, but I think I found a fix on the Debian forums that I'm going to try. Synaptic is all well and good, but I've been trying to grow my understanding of the command-line to fix things. If I can, and if it works, I'll post the result h...

[fixed] Flash DEAD after latest update (2012-09-20)
Hey, * After the latest update [approx 1GB], Flash no longer works. If it weren't for Hulu and Youtube, I wouldn't care, but... Is there a way to roll-back or fix this? One of the reasons I use LMDE instead of straight-up Debian is because it should be a bit easier, but I admit, I have no idea...

Re: My doubts and quirks after installing LMDE XFCE
P.S. is there a reason for not use Icedove and Iceweael and instead have firefox and thunderbird? Icedove and Iceweasel are both Debian's answer code that Mozilla uses in Firefox and Thunderbird. Both work the same, though, except Firefox gets updated more often. The same situation exists between c...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments
I like running Xfce on my Acer Netbook (32-bit, a few years old, only 1GB RAM) because the system resources are so minimal. I got so used to the interface, though, that after playing with Cinnamon and Mate for a few days each, I wiped the hard drive on a new Toshiba 64-bit laptop, and installed Xfce...

I agree with most of what you've said, and there have been times before when the guys have reviewed image viewers, video editors, etc. Might be nice to revisit those again. A problem occurs when you start talking about the nuts and bolts of installing or removing a program, though... it's called Bad...

Flying Toasters Screensaver. How to enable it...
This is the most trivial use of a computer I can think of, but I want to use the Flying Toaster screensaver on my laptop. It's silly and pointless, but it cracks me up when I used it many, many years ago on a Windows box, so... Being trivial and unimportant, I never looked into the matter before. An...

Re: Linux Mint Debian 201109 (Gnome & Xfce) released!
Also, all of that stuff I have to install after a Debian XFCE install (firefox, flash, debian-multimedia, vlc) is already there. ...and don't forget all the fun of trying to manually configure wifi on a laptop with Debian. It may be rock-solid once installed, but getting ther feelslike crewing rock...

Episode 89: Charles on Writing
Just a little feedback on the topic of Writing; Every Word-Processor, Note-taking application, and text-editor should come with the following warning in big red block letters; WARNING: WRITING CAN BECOME ADDICTIVE . They should include it on typewriters too, if you want to go the analog route. In or...
