Re: Is LibreOffice normally really slow?

The problem persists even when using the PAE kernel (which now nicely detects the 4G or memory in the machine, too  ;-), here's the updated inxi output: System: Host hoover Kernel 3.2.0-2-686-pae i686 (32 bit) Distro Linux Mint Debian Edition CPU: Dual core AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (-MCP-) cache...

Re: Is LibreOffice normally really slow?

I have to agree with the original poster. Ever since updating to the latest LMDE RC update pack, both libreoffice and openoffice (which I installed from the oracle debs for testing) are painfully slow when it comes to font rendering. Example: - Open libreoffice draw - add a picture, everything remai...

Re: Linux Mint Debian 201109 (Gnome & Xfce) released!

Ok, this time nothing broke, but I'm getting the following error:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad_0.10.22-3_i386.deb: Versuch, »/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstxvid.so« zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad 0.10.22-0.1 ist

any ideas?

Re: Linux Mint Debian 201109 (Gnome & Xfce) released!

I tried a "dist-upgrade" from the shell last night and it more or less broke the system on an asus eeepc 1005 hd. The window manager died and kept respawning, some errors about gdk-pixbuf not being found. I'll try the regular update manager process next and report back in case it breaks. Thanks for ...

Re: Cant Install Mint 10 Main on Win7

Unfortunately Vincent has misread the information that you posted before. And as Aging Technogeek wrote, check that you are not using RAID in the BIOS. And if your harddisk controller is set to IDE-mode currently in the BIOS, try switching it to AHCI, or vice versa. in my case, I've tried connectin...

Re: Cant Install Mint 10 Main on Win7

Just posting to add a "me too" for this problem here, in my case the installer fails to show the disk /dev/sda in the partitioning screen even though it offers to install grub to /dev/sda. fdisk -l in a shell works fine on the device, I can copy data to it without problems, too, partprobe /dev/sda w...

Installer fails to see sata disk / partitions

Hi folks, I've been trying to reactivate some ancient intel p4 based hardware using linux mint 11 (asus p4c800 E mobo, 2gb ram, ide cdrom, 750g WD sata disk, agp ati x800gto). The no-codec cd boots up fine (the system cannot boot from usb for some reason), I can start the installer and fdisk -l show...

Re: Problem updating

Hi folks,

has anyone been able to shed some light on this issue? I'd love to stick with LMDE, but right now it's impossible to follow the rolling releases because of the borked packages.

Thanks in advance,

x11-common update causing problems

Hi folks, as the suggestions in the other "updating problems" thread did not solve the problem, I'm creating a new thread. As of yesterday, I'm unable to run "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" successfully, which results in the following error output: apt-get upgrade Reading package lists... Done B...

Re: Mint 8 Helena hangs (total freeze)

Just wanted to add my voice to the choir of lost souls here. I'm a long-time Linux user (ca. 1994), and suffered the freeze / crash problems on lucid while 9.04 and 9.10 all ran fine on the same machine. Not being able to fix the problem in lucid (refer to this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthr...

Re: That's it... I'm going back to Gloria.

Hi folks, thanks for toughts and your level-headed and well-worded replies. I'm typing this on my t41 running Gloria again, and it's been smooth sailing so far (the only thing I had to change from the default setup was what happens when I close the lid :)). Don't get me wrong, down in the cellar the...

That's it... I'm going back to Gloria.

Hi folks, after an endless string of problems with Linux Mint Helena / Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic on my thinkpad t41, I'm going back to Gloria. I realize that it's not particularly Mint's fault as I suffer the same problems on Karmic, but still I do not understand why a setup that was working more or less f...

Re: MintUpdate not working.

I have a similar problem with Mint 8 on my work machine which was recently freshly-minted (so to speak ;-) Whenever I run mintUpdate from the lock icon, I'm asked for my password but then mint tells me it was unable to execute the sudo command. No biggie as I can still update from the shell by doing...

Re: Linux Mint 8 RC1 Bug Thread

Hi folks, I just checked again, and it seems like I'm using ndiswrapper for my t41 wlan connection on Mint 7. I just tried the intel drivers for the ipw2100 on mint 8 rc1, but they won't work. I'm posting my ndiswrapper config here (from Mint 7 which works) in the hope it may help with the wireless ...

Re: Linux Mint 8 RC1 Bug Thread

I can confirm the black desktop / missing desktop icons bug. It happened after booting the rc1 live cd on an HP laptop, however when I set the resolution manually to 1024x768, the desktop icons reappeared and I was able to launch the installer just fine.
