What are the Pros & Cons of .deb files versus AppImage files? I read somewhere that AppImage files are more "self-contained" or something (not sure exactly what that means, though), but some of them can't be updated automatically, so you have to check for updates yourself? I like that...

That "disks" utility that comes with Mint and many others, does a fine job of writing an ISO to a pendrive. No extra software needed.

yes you can but remember that you can only create live usb's of linux distro's and andoroid x86 derivative,
you won't be able to make a windows usb using ether

i think this might help you , its for xubuntu actually(xfce+ubuntu), and as you are using linuxmint xfce(ubuntu based)
