Re: Kingston data traveler 8gb not recognised.

Are you able to click the minus sign in the disks application? This will delete the partition (be careful the flash drive is selected and not something else).
Then you should be able to format the drive, you can pick the LUKS option and set a password for it so the drive will be encrypted.

Re: Can a linux mint wifi device match cabled speeds?

LinSSID sounds amazing, but your instructions for roaming the house with it running sounds like it is intended to be installed on a laptop? Well.. yes, ideally you can survey your place with a laptop just to check how strong your wifi signal is on various points, but not really necessary. You can s...

Re: Linux Mint on Raspberry Pi 5

The other thing I see is people saying there is no official ARM version of Linux Mint. This is true but does it really matter? Yes it is true and it DOES matter. You won't be able to run Mint on a PI, at least not officially period. Besides that, if you are considering the PI to be used as a deskto...

Re: Moving Unencrypted File to Encrypted Home

LM 21.3 with Home encrypted at OS installation. Are all unencrypted files that are moved/copied to the encrypted Home thereby encrypted? If so does the encryption somehow happen automatically? Yes and No. When you copy/move a file from an unencrypted source to the encrypted home directory, the actu...

Re: I'm Having Trouble Booting Mint with an MSI Board

But when i was pressing f11 to enter the boot menu, the only thing that happened was my screen getting stuck on the boot screen that shows when my pc boots up. And as far as i could tell, there was nothing else on the screen then Buggy motherboard or lack of proper configuration maybe. But you shou...

You pull the hardware info using different commands rather than a GUI panel like in windows

Code: Select all

Re: I'm Having Trouble Booting Mint with an MSI Board

Read your motherboard's manual.
F11 should bring the boot menu when turning on the computer, you are not supposed to look for mint in the bios itself.
Before you install, you may want to burn the Mint Cinnamon Edge to your USB stick.

Re: Can a linux mint wifi device match cabled speeds?

I saw my wired PC's pulling 900+ Mbps and my wireless pulling 9-12Mbps, it seemed something to attend to. I would do the same yeah. If you like to play being geeky and learn something new, you can survey your place and see where the issue might be. I use the built in dual band intel adapter in my l...

Re: Can a linux mint wifi device match cabled speeds?

To answer your main question about wifi matching wire speeds, my answer is NO. it does not matter what the box of your wifi adapter says. Everything is theoretical with wifi, there will be always different external factors to consider like Walls, signal noise, distance, radio interference, the cance...

Re: How do I completely switch over to a new desktop environment?

I would setup virtual box with multiple VMs, one different for each DE you want to try and setup a shared directory in the host to work on your files while you do the experiments. When you are happy and decide to stick to a specific DE, setup that on your main box from scratch.

Re: Is Linux just wrong for me?

One does not need to install an OEM kernel to get a 6.5 kernel. One just needs to select the 6.5 HWE kernel in Update Manager. I was testing in a 21.2 VM and there was no option to pick 6.5 until i installed the 6.5 headers. For the OP this was probably not necessary as he was already running 21.3....

Re: Is Linux just wrong for me?

Run this in a terminal: sudo apt update && sudo apt install linux-oem-6.5-headers-6.5.0-1020 Just for my information, what does that do? I installed 6.5 from the update manager without executing the command. It just makes the option to install 6.5 available if it was not there.. But if the ...

Re: Is Linux just wrong for me?

Right off the bat i see, you are using Kernel 5.15.x and your system is "too new" for it. Im sure the guys here will recommend you upgrade it to 6.5 first. Run this in a terminal: sudo apt update && sudo apt install linux-oem-6.5-headers-6.5.0-1020 Then open the Mint's update manag...

Re: files and folders not visible in terminal or gui but file are there

Could it be that the media player just remembers previous locations that do not exist anymore? I don't think that is the case. I tried playing, then deleting a video & then selecting the video again in Recent Files and it always gave me this error.. Yes, but the OP is using the media player's &...

Re: External SSD no longer mounts properly after kernel update

1. If you delete the entry for the drive from /etc/fstab, Disks cannot change the mount options. It needs to be able to comment out the old entry itself. 2. No matter how I changed the mount options, Disks could not mount the drive at /mnt/ExternalSSD. 3. However, when I changed the mount options t...
