Re: Rsync and Crontab

Thanks for the help, but -a covers the function of -r:

-a, --archive archive mode; equals -rlptgoD (no -H,-A,-X)

I have tried it with just -r as well, but no joy. I think I will start over afresh and see what happens.

Rsync and Crontab

I am trying to set up an Rsync backup to run on the hour with Cron but I do not seem to be able to get it working. Here is the entry from my crontab: 02 * * * * rsync -a --exclude-from '/media/BACKUP/exclude.txt' /home/marc /media/BACKUP The contents of exclude.txt is as follows: Music/* Pictures/* ...

Re: SD card y automaically mounted read only

Hmm...had a look at all that and it appears to be mounted RW, and yet still says it is a read-only file system when I try to delete a file from it. Very odd. Maybe I should format it?

SD card y automaically mounted read only

I have an SD card which stays in my laptop permanently and is used for backups. Recently it has mounted itself read-only and I cant change it back. Is there any way to force it back to RW?

Strange Virtualbox problem

I have installed Vbox 3.2 from Suns repos and am having problems starting it up under 32 bit Mint9 gnome. I installed the build-essentials package, then Vbox. Everything installed apparently correctly but when I go to start it I get the following error: Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object. Th...

Re: Enable wireless by default?

I have the same problem with Mint 9. Never had it before but reinstalled with the same .iso which was working previously, now every time I start the machine up I need to manually enable wireless. 'Tis very strange.

FYI I am using an Acer AspireOne 531H with Atheros 5700 card.

Re: Upgraded to Julia without formatting /home

Bump for this.

I am currently on 9 but want to upgrade to 10. I have loads of programs intallled and dont want to have to reconfigure much, if anything. Is there an easy way to upgrade to the latest release but keep as much of my programs and setting as possible?

Re: Conky Showoff thread

mintmaniac - Thanks, it was a real help to have a good solid backbone to work from while trying things out. I am running it on a netbook so space is at a premium, I am still fiddling with it to get all the info I want in the space that I have.

Re: Why use multiple workspaces?

I am making a concerted effort to use them, currently I have one for CAD, one for firefox and one for GIMP. I will see how it goes.

Thanks for the above tips, keep them coming if there are any more.

Why use multiple workspaces?

I know I am risking a major flaming here but I am going ahead anyway... What is the point of using multiple workspaces? I come form a Windows background so the whole concept is new to me, I really want to use it but I cant figure out how it will help me. Are you meant to leave certain applications r...

Here is mine, it is based heavily on one from this thread, sorry but I cant remember your name, with bits and pieces of some others thrown in. I still need to tweak it a bit but I am getting there. http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/1894/screenshot1he.th.png Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with...

Re: Conky Showoff thread

Silly question, but how do I have multiple conkys running at the same time? For example how do I run one on the left and another on the right? Is it simply a matter of having two parts in the conkyrc file, one for each instance?
An example file would be fantastic help, if possible.

Re: How to switch between workspaces using mouse?

... When I say on the cube, I am not seeing a shrunken image with skydome (backdrop) and caps like you see in the Unofficial Desktop thread. It is one workspace changing to the other more like some video transitions. Any ideas how to enable the shrunken image with skydome anyone? I cant work it out...

How do you get the background image with the cube floating like that. I know its probably a really simple setting but I am a bit daft sometimes.
