Re: USB Drive read-only
You may have written an ISO to it, turning the USB into a CD which is read-only. If you hadn't mentioned this, we'd be scratching our heads until the cows come home. It's almost like buying a Linux CD and booting it. Also similar to the rest of us burning images to our thumb drives to try out the la...

Re: Select which video output Grub uses for the menu
Being curious myself, I have found these options in an askubuntu forum. https://askubuntu.com/questions/712111/ ... a-hdmi-vga could be a useful lead; it depends on your hardware setup. Let us know of your progress

Re: Back again after many years
Welcome back, Markko. I've also been the distro hopper, and I still am. I have LMDE on a stick (a USB thumb drive) that has ventoy on it, in case there happens to be a new or different distro. My daily driver is an XPS13 from Dell, running enlightenment 25. When I had a desktop that had Windows, I p...

Re: Filesystem check during boot on Mint 22
I think what you're seeing is a quick integrity check if the image is readable--and therefore bootable; that's it.

Re: New travel laptop idea.
I've also acquired used Dells -- these were often sold to recycle/refurbish centers when upgrades at the public library were coming. Not a bad deal overall, because they could run LM quite capably. Then someone wanted to sell his XPS13, a considerable upgrade for me, because it had touchscreen, and ...

Re: Black screen after suspend with nVidia and LM 22
Try something similar; stick to your usual procedure, but with the extra step of closing the lid on the laptop. Leave it like this overnight. I am hoping it behaves like my laptop when I open the lid -- it's ready to go, picking up from where I left it. See if there is any improvement, or you still ...

Re: Detect new ssd
Try going into the BIOS settings,or UEFI settings at boot. You normally get s few seconds to press the proper Function key; on my DELL I have to press F12 -- some other brands use F2-- for boot options. That new component has to be detected here in the diagnostics portion of hardware detection. When...

Re: Kalarm - options greyed out
my guess is you're not completely removing all traces of kde/kalarm. Is there a dot kde folder in your $HOME? Turn on hidden files in your file manager. It might be all in one big kderc file -- it's been a while since I've used KDE and its applets. But these are the usual suspects you might want to ...

Re: Never enough monitors
Been there, but I topped out at three in an awkward L shaped setup. I have checked out how other folks had their screens laid out. There were impressive setups for flight simulators and also for day traders, but my rig was only for casual gaming, until I grew weary of the large footprint in a smalli...

Perhaps there is another option, except you haven't posted your system specs. This is described in the link above, how to get help. Then we'd know how better to proceed and troubleshoot the issue

So, if I put away the BenQ monitor and hook up the Iiyama using DVI what happens, does the screen wake up?

What happens when you set the password? Will it let you proceed? You might need your Linux Mint LiveUSB to make this work

That shorter script in the last part of Shiva's post can be customized so that it can perform the task you want. Unless you want the entire thing instead of the bite sized portions (each element of the selection)

You don't suppose that it has a feature like a sensor or even just a pin that the case pushes in that sends a signal that the case is absent, like a 1/0 toggle signifying case/no case? Just a thought. Seems odd though, it's almost like a cigarette brand claiming that the tobacco leaves are toasted b...

Might be worth it to include what version of LM is going to be installed, by a person curious enough to give it a shot.
