Re: Anyone know about Controller Chips on SATA to USB

Looking into getting 128GB flash drive that is so small it can barley be seen outside of the plug. :D

Can't believe they can fit all that memory on such a little thing. Makes me think of all the waste in bigger ones. Hard to keep track of them tho, easier to lose.

Re: Not Qwite Getting VM's, Questions, VM or Dual Boot?

Thanks for the replies, I'll have 8GB of ram soon. Ill open mine up to see if I have 2, 2GB or one 4GB. Hoping to have one 4GB so I can just get another 4GB. I have a few laptops laying around so I will see about borrowing from another machine and getting more for that one. Using Linux with 256mb of...

Anyone know about Controller Chips on SATA to USB

I was looking at a SATA to USB cord to install Linux from an external HD (also to get data off a drive if I need to). On the "best choice" a review said he uses it to boot from. He bought one that worked good. He bought two more, but said you can't boot from it. He went on to say they chan...

Re: Not Qwite Getting VM's, Questions, VM or Dual Boot?

Wow! Are we really here? I remember Linux ran good on 256MB of Ram. It would probably run better on more, but my Windows 10 runs good on the 4GB of Ram. Quick, responsive. I've done heavy video editing on it. I used to do heavy editing on 2GB tho. In Windows you can easily go in and click TurboBoost...

Re: Can't Get DVD's to Start

Questions: Could I use Mint from the USB all the time without installing it? Boot to Windows if I need to, Put in the USB and boot to Linux? Will it save if I set it up the way i like it? Save downloads? Yes but you will lose everything every time you boot. You could install to a usb stick. It will...

Re: Not Qwite Getting VM's, Questions, VM or Dual Boot?

This computer I will just do basic internet stuff, some audio stuff (audacity) and zoom. Its a i3 with 4GB's of ram. A while back I wanted to see how a SSD worked so I got a 128GB HD. I know that's not enought so I plan to get a 500GB for the VM set up. If you can't do heavy video stuff on a VM, I c...

Not Qwite Getting VM's, Questions, VM or Dual Boot?

I've heard about VM's for years but never looked into them to see what it was. I've always run Linux on a separate HD or dual booted. Without fully understanding VM's yet, Id think the first choice would be dual boot, then if had certain circumstances you could use a VM. Is it best to dual boot if y...

Re: Can't Get DVD's to Start

Nope, didn't work. Using the USB was pretty cool. I did it years a go and didn't like it wrecked my USB drive (I thought you could format it later and use it again). After a blink light at first, the USB drive never even showed activity. What happens with both the USB and the DVD is the screen is bl...

Re: Can't Get DVD's to Start

Thank you for the reply, Did burn as image. Checked the disc. Legacy bios. Have 12 USB's laying around, all full. My drive works good but may be good to try usb to rule out the drive. Still think some bios setting is preventing it. I'll copy one to my computer then try the install with USB and post ...

Can't Get DVD's to Start

I have a Lenovo Laptop (about 10 years old), I had Linux installed on it before, but have used Windows for several years. I wanted to run Linux again and tride the new version. When I put the discs in, set it to DVD Rom Drive as the first start up, the discs don't start up (xfce and Mate). I tried m...

Tried the 32bit and it still does it. Got the blank screen fixed, but can hardly use this computer with Linux.

I guess if no one can answer my question, does anyone have an extra Windows Disc for sale? Windows doesn't have any problems on this computer.

Re: Tried Intel Drivers and Now Have a Blank Screen

Just thought of something. All my Linux Discs are for my main computer, a 64bit. If this is 32bit, I may be installing a 64bit OS on a 32bit system. Can this cause the problem I'm having?

Thank you,
Chris.

Re: Tried Intel Drivers and Now Have a Blank Screen

Cant get the usb out of this computer. "Busy."

One thing good is it must be the USB Drive and not the computer, since it's now doing it on both. I'll post in a different forum for that problem.

That was very cool. Except I got "xserver-xorg-video-intel is already the newest version" I rebooted and it booted up to the O.S. Thank you. Still can't believe Mint Xfce is way heaver then Windows Vista. Guess where not in the "good old days" of Linux anymore. Takes Mint 30 seco...
