Re: apt-get upgrade installs Ubuntu packages

Okay, thanks. That is helpful and I will go ahead and update the other 10 packages.

One last question. If there is no issue upgrading those and they should be upgraded, why aren't they showing up in Mint Update Manager, even after refreshing?

Re: apt-get upgrade installs Ubuntu packages

I believe that these were the files prompted for change: /etc/issue, /etc/issue.net, /etc/lsb-release, /etc/os-release When I checked the differences for changing the files, the only thing that was being changed was the version from something like, "Linux Mint Rafaela 17.2" to "Ubuntu 14.04.3". I di...

apt-get upgrade installs Ubuntu packages

I noticed that there were some packages not upgraded after running apt-get update. Decided to install these. When I got a warning that certain config files were being changed with prompt to keep original or use maintainers new version I realized that it was installing packages from Ubuntu 14.04.3. I...

Re: [SOLVED] Default user / username at login window

I have updated the original instructions. I don't remember doing the extra step for the lightdm.conf, but I may have done so before installing lightdm and didn't realize it was necessary. Sorry to anyone who had problems with the original instrucitons.

Re: [SOLVED] Default user / username at login window

At this point I would either try again with a fresh install or try re-installing mdm running dpkg-reconfigure and selecting mdm and using that instead.

Re: [SOLVED] Default user / username at login window

Yes, I did both. I ran sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm a second time form the recovery mode, and selected again lightdm, but no change. Still booting is impossible, no change. Any more ideas? Based on the error message, it looks like the system is still trying to load mdm. It seems you followed all t...

Re: [SOLVED] Default user / username at login window

After OK, there should be a list where you can select from mdm and lightdm. Did you change the selection to lightdm? If not, you could try booting into recovery mode and running sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm again from there.

Re: Default user / username at login window

Not really, just press your keyboard's up arrow key twice and the you're ready to type your password, nothing to click: http://i.imgur.com/n9Q6u.jpg If you prefer a "themed with face browser" login, just press Tab and then the up arrow key and type your password (no click also): http://i.imgur.com/...

Re: Default user / username at login window

I followed your instructions and wrote the first two lines in the terminal (not removing mdm), but the system fails to boot with lightdm. Instead the boot process interrupts with the following message: "not starting mdm display manager; it is not the default display manager saned disabled; edit /et...

Re: Default user / username at login window

Argh, this gives the purpley Ubuntu login, is the old Mint login theme on gnome-look somewhere, does anyone have it handy? If you choose one of the default wallpapers, the purpley thing appears very briefly and then changes to the wallpaper. There is a way you can hack the default wallpaper list so...

Re: Default user / username at login window

Take a look at this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=102030&start=40#p579931 Actually, that isn't ideal because I still have to click on the user before entering password. The LDM login theme was much more attractive in Linux Mint 12. Perhaps this is just a place holder for LM13 un...

Re: Mint 13 (Maya) RC out

Just on the off chance that anybody actually wants to know how to do that this is my best guess: Menu > Administration > Login Window > Local > Style > choose " Plain with Face Browser" Perhaps there's another way? That's it. The other way is stepping in front of your pc shouting: For it is Linus T...

[SOLVED] Default user / username at login window

Just finished installing Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon on my Macbook Air. Loving it so far :D One minor annoyance is that I have to enter my username and password everytime I login to the desktop. How can I set the login window so that my username is automatically selected and all I have to do is enter my ...

Re: Add Option of Full Disk Encryption to all future Linux M

Thanks. I just voted it up. I was really suprised to find out that there is no full disk encryption last night, because it has long been available as an install option for Ubuntu. I thought I must have missed it or something while installing Linux Mint 12 to test out Cinnamon and the new KDE release...

Re: Add Option of Full Disk Encryption to all future Linux M

Yes! I agree. Full disk encryption option during install is a must . Including this feature should be a priority for the Linux Mint 13 release. I currently use Fedora 16 on my primary laptop that I keep at home and I have been installing Ubuntu for any laptops I take with me on the road. With Fedora...

Re: Linux Mint KDE

Thanks for the explanation. I have had some issues with Kubuntu in the past, stability and performance. I find that Fedora does a much better KDE. However, it has been a while since I tried Kubuntu and I'll definitely give the Mint KDE a whirl, since I already have Mint 12 installed anyways. btw, I ...
