Re: Headset microphone detected but not working

Thank you so it seems to be that Mint doesn't play nice with 3.5mm jacked microphones specifically? And yes, it has separate jacks for the speakers and microphone. Your recommendation would be simply to buy a USB mic then? I used to hope that all sorts of people would jump in and say that they are ...

Re: Headset microphone detected but not working

I have asked in more than one forum here if anyone has used a wired headset mic to record with Linux. The only positive response was someone using a USB headset. There are a whole bunch of Kernel patches that are supposed to help but did not help me. I will tell people that if you want to record sou...

Re: Suggesting systems to non-Linux users

Lenovo keyboards are the best I've ever typed on (besides 'proper' mechanical keyboards of course). Currently using an older Carbon X1 and it's great. I've had issues with the 74xx series latitudes and would stay away from them. Just curious as to what issues you have had with the 74xx series? Typi...

Bluetooth headset mic

Is anyone able to successfully use a Bluetooth headset like they use with their phone to provide sound in with the headset mike? This does not work on two different laptops and two different headsets and 3 different distros. Bluetooth works great on all devices for sound out (eg listening to music) ...

Re: WTH is wrong with Linux companies

I drive a 2008 Buick Lucerne (166,000 miles)and getting ready to start some repairs on it to keep it going. I also will never buy a newer car for the sake of the data collection. Besides that the engines and electrical are abysmal on these new cars. Got a turbo on your car? Turbo self destructs and...

Re: Suggesting systems to non-Linux users

I've had both a Thinkpad and am currently typing this on a Latitude. The Thinkpad was OK I guess. However, being a Mac guy for mot of my life, I just don't understand the awful displays that seem to be the norm with the Tinkpads. Perhaps the T480 and T490 were to the point where more people were get...

Re: Mint 22 and Kernels

That is going to be great for us. I added the 6.8 kernel to all my computers, and from the oldest to the newest I have seem improvements across the board. This is one of the best moves yet. Are you saying that you did this with 21.3? I have wondered about that but so far I have stuck with the advis...

Another demo of the power and simplicity of Mint

Not sure I am ready for production yet but I'm trying to demonstrate just how good Mint is as well as the fact that I can understand, create, and explain various productivity systems. Thought I would put this little test out there for feedback from a friendly community. Got my sound issue worked out...

Re: Anyone use a hardwired headset with Mint?

I think there is a miscommunication here. Perhaps you really do use a 3.5mm headset plugged directly in and it works for you in Mint. That is what I was fighting and I believe it to be an issue where Linux falls short. I do not believe that I am an edge case and here is why: 1. Other than yourself t...

Re: Anyone use a hardwired headset with Mint?

It was a long and difficult road but I can finally get sound in, albeit with USB instead of the headset jack. Even got it running on a different piece of hardware with a different distro. While I was testing this out, I had not fired up MX in a while and there were a bunch of updates. Just for giggl...

Re: Anyone use a hardwired headset with Mint?

Still a bit deflated in that my image of Mint just working has dulled considerably. However, I am no longer crying as what I needed to do -- record audio with the AC running -- I can do! I got an amazing cheap USB mic. Shows up in the system settings as a USB PnP device. Not exactly PnP as I had to ...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't get any sound in to work.

A wired headset mic through the audio jack just simply won't work for me on either of two laptops or 2 Mint and 1 MX installation. I am marking this solved because when I started I could not get any sound in to work at all. Now, I have sound in so long as it comes in through USB. The silver lining i...

Re: Passwords!

Personally, I use an encrypted Libre Office Document to hold my passwords. It is a lower tech version of a password manager. I keep a copy of the master password in my safe in case I get hit by a bus. Since it is an .odt file, it can be opened on both Windows and Linux. No known vulnerabilities so ...

Re: Anyone use a hardwired headset with Mint?

try clicking the sound icon and choose Sound Settings. Pay attention to the output device. Not sure I understand this from the standpoint of looking at the output device. Not sure why that would affect the input but I have tried it with the output set to the headset as well as the output set as the...

Maybe, instead of crying, open a thread in the support forums and post your system information there?
As I said, before crying, I did that.

Anyone use a hardwired headset with Mint?

Have become completely deflated and my rose colored Mint glasses are shattered. I was just hoping to use a headset mic. Seems simple to me. Been using Mint as my daily driver for about a year now. Everything just works almost no issues and the few that I did run into have been answered mostly on the...

Re: Can't get any sound in to work.

I just removed the file and rebooted. Output is likely the same, (forget I said anything about distortion). What I did notice is that dmesg is not returning the errors. Maybe something can still be done with that file? dmesg | grep snd [ 5.812732] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: bound 0000:00:02.0 (ops ...

Re: Can't get any sound in to work.

You may want to try booting with 'options snd-hda-intel model=dell-e7x' https://docs.kernel.org/sound/hd-audio/models.html echo "options snd-hda-intel model=dell-e7x" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/soundfix.conf sudo update-initramfs -u -k all You can delete the file if it doesn't work or cau...

[SOLVED] Can't get any sound in to work.

All I get is static. Internal mic works. Headphones accept sound output both Bluetooth and hard wired. Sound in does not work either with Bluetooth or hard wired. Ave searched through the forums and even tried a chatbot for help. When I go to alsamixer it says the mic is off. When I turn it on it mu...

Re: How long have you been using Linux ?

I got burned pretty bad on the Centos7/8 nightmare and was in the process of switching over to 8 when IBM pulled the plug. So I resolved that from now on its debian for servers. Just curious, did you ever consider FreeBSD for servers? I am considering that right now, at least for Apache. Probably w...
